It was great staying here nice to have a clean room and own ensuite to come back to at the end of the day!
Room also had unlimited WiFi, tv and own fridge.
Staff very approachable and knowledgeable of area.
Great value for money, hope to stay again sometime!

I stayed here in January 2014 for 7 nights, the room was unclean, I had paid extra for the double room to myself however both of the bunk beds were broken so a bit creeky at night. There is a church a few blocks away that chimes every hour during the night very loudly consequently I slept for 4 hours each night the chimming kept me awake till midnight and woke me up at 4, and I am NOT a light sleeper.
The carpet didn't have things growing in it, but it wasn't far off!
All this aside, the backpackers inn was right in Launceston centre with just 25 min walk to the gauge and 5 min walk to the town and shops. There are some lovely cafes around the back of the Hostel which I found were perfect for breakfast as I preferred not to have cereal or toast which you can buy to have at the hostel they have good facilities for these.
I didn't find I communicated well with people who were staying at the hostel as the majority of them didn't speak English and I don't speak any other language a bit of poor German but no one was German. A lot of people just stay for a night at this hostel as it is close to the airport.
I hired a car I would recommend this as tourist attractions are far apart but the roads are easy to drive. But facilities for parking at this hostel are non existant really, if your lucky you might be able to get a space down the side of the hostel, but there are not many, there are some spaces that are sheltered but are not monitored and locals tend to block this off.
I would not stay here again if I ever were to return to Tasmania, but it was a cheap and the staff are nice, but the reception is not tended all day only specific times.

We stayed for 2 nights in a king room and highly recommend the Batman Fawkner as a stopover. Bed was very comfortable...very roomy bathroom and lot's of room to spread out. Was walking distance to most attractions in Launceston. The only downside was the lack of water pressure in the shower but would stay there again...........free parking....city park was virtually next door...close to pubs.....

Room Tip: Get the king room

We booked a family room to stay for festival, very disappointed when we returned to the room as it was a rather hot weekend and there was no fan nor air-conditioning in the room which made sleeping impossible. The room was in dire need of a make over and a good clean and I would hardly call $140 a night budget accommodation. This is not a hotel I would recommend and will be staying elsewhere next year

The hotel/hostel is very nice. Very old but clean. It is a good value for Launceston. The kitchen is good but no Wi-Fi. It is located a block from the city park and 2k from cataract Gorge. Overall we would skip Launceston next time around. You have to pay for parking everywhere. The city park was closed for a festival and the museum does not open until 10am.

Booked a twin room during the Festivale weekend in Feb. Much accommodation was booked out in Launceston over the weekend, and even this hotel was booked out.
we had to wait in reception while the receptionist had popped out, which wasn't really an issue until there were three groups of people trying to check in. We were first in line and told that there was no booking under our name, and offering a booking number didn't help, apparently. Eventually, the check in lady found us on the computer, though we still had to refill information on a paper form.
The room smelt very strongly of pee. This is definitely a budget hotel and we were offered a budget service. It seems to cater more for the backpacker crowd. We paid $85 for the night. Will not stay again.
Check out is at 10am... at 10am exactly we had a knock on the door asking us to vacate the room!!!
