after reading trip advisor hotels reviews on Launceston, my wife and I decided to stay here for two nights, and were very glad we did. The hotel had an "olde world" charm about it, with nice modern touches. The friendly staff were very helpful when we arrived to check in, and our room was spacious, neat and clean, on the first floor over looking the street. Certainly wasn't noisy (although it was a Tuesday and a Wednesday night that we stayed). Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. The only downside that we found with the hotel was the walk into the town centre, while not being a problem for my wife or I, it could pose problems for aged guests.

We had booked the hotel through a travel agent and had not looked at their website. Our previous 7 nights had been in very large plush hotels in Cairns and Sydney and we had built up expectations of "City Grand" being of similar size and grandeur. Although we were not excessively late in arriving - possibly around 9 pm we were shocked to find the front door locked and told to enter via the rear.
The room was fine and large and comfortable and had all the facilties we required.
We were pleased with the free internet access.
The receptionist did a wonderful job in persuading our car hire company that we could pick up the car at the city depot, whislt our UK agent had informed us that we would need to return to the airport to collect the car.
We were not impressed with the choice and quantity of food in the continetal breakfast which we considered over-priced in comparison with other hotels.

We (my wife and 2 kids aged 14 and 11) stayed at The City Park Grand hotel for 1 night as we were touring around Tasmania. However, after seeing the room that we had allocated to us, we wish our stay would have been longer. We were in Room 46.

Check-In:
Very quick and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Room:
We booked a Spa Suite and although it didn't have a seperate sitting / lounge area, there was still plenty of space for us all. It did have a lovely leather chesterfield suite. There were bath robes and slippers provided for use during the stay and a fully stocked mini bar. (We went for the cheaper option and bought drinks and snacks from one of the local supermarkets). The spa bath was excellent and was fully operational unlike some others that we have tried in hotels. The tv was excellent and there was also a cd player and a dvd player in the room. DVD'd were available and provided free by the hotel (we didn't use these though).
All in all, everything was first class with this room.

Car Park: There is ample space for car parking and although not secure, it is off street and if you are on a ground level room like ours, you could actually see your car from the room window. The hotel is situated in a quiet area also and we didn't hear any noises from traffic.

We didn't have breakfast or dinner in the hotel.

Check Out: Even easier and quicker than the check in.

We paid $250 for the Spa suite for 1 night and was great value for money considering there were 4 of us in the room.

I would recommend this hotel.

This hotel was our cheaper option on our itinerary so we didnt have high expectations. What a lovely surprise! There is an old worldly opulence about it. Staff were extremely good - always helpful and really good all round service. The rooms were beautiful, furnished in dark timbers, shower was one of the best we had and the best beds either my partner or I have ever slept in and that's a big call. Really well located, and everything was thought of - from the magnified shaving mirror to the complimentary laundry powder, we really enjoyed our time here.

I chose the City Park Grand after quite an exhaustive browse of other Launceston hotels on Trip Advisor. It had pretty good reviews, but I was really swayed by one gentleman who said it was 'one of the quietest hotels he had ever stayed in', as this is always one of my major concerns with hotels.

Although I didn't really find this to be the case, as it's on a corner of a main road (for Launceston) and it is in hearing distance of a town clock that chimed each hour - I nonetheless had a very peaceful sleep after the traffic disappeared about 10pm at night. I'm quite a finnicky sleeper so that's saying something (I did have ear plugs in though).

We had booked directly through the hotel, which I rarely do, preferring wotif's bargains, but they offered a better deal, plus a 'romantic package' which included a 3 course dinner in what looked like their very nice restaurant, and breakfast. The manager, Phyllis, was very helpful and friendly on the phone.

When we arrived, we discovered that the restaurant was in fact closed, and we didn't really get an explanation why, or an apology as such, which was a bit strange, as we hadn't been previously notified, and the night we were meant to have dinner was a public holiday so almost everything else in town was also closed.
However, the hotel significantly reduced our rate, and included breakfast each morning as well, which we were more than happy with and the continental breakfast was great (heaps of cereal choice, fruit salad, yogurt, 3 kinds of bread, coffee machine - which we found easy to use but the staff will help you with if you don't, juice etc). The hotel manager wasn't really able to recommend any other restaurants of the same kind in town (although she indicated a steak house, a pub etc), but mentioned the fish and chip shop on the riverfront may be open. It was, and it was great!! Overlooking the Tamar, grilled salmon and a glass of vino almost made up for a lost 3 course dinner.

The rooms: We had a spa suite in the converted stables behind the hotel, which was exceptionally clean, modern, nice linen, very comfy King bed, choice of pillows and had free foxtel movies etc. The bathroom (including an old style but clean and lovely spa) had modern, clean showers and a range of nicely packaged hotel branded toiletries. There were also robes and slippers.
We ended up paying about $150 a night with breakfast both days, which was exceptional value as the room was great and spacious. I think some of the other rooms might have older decor, but ours was renovated and modern.
I would definitely recommend the hotel, whilst recommending that you ask for a quiet room, as ours was furthest away from the road (room 57) and therefore quieter than I imagine the ones closer to the road would be.
Book a spa suite, and try the restaurant - It looked great and we were disappointed to miss it!

Had a fantastic stay here. I booked directly through the hotel itself- they offered a cheaper rate and a better room than wotif/lastminute.com.
The rooms are beautifully furnished with lots of space. I travelled with a friend and so I booked a twin room. The girl at reception warned me it was a 'bit smaller' than the other rooms, so I was a bit worried about the size of the room.
However, on arrival i was stunned: the room was HUGE!!!! They gave us a room with two interconnecting bedrooms with a shared bathroom- one bedroom had a king bed and a king single bed, and the other room had a queen bed. The beds were covered with all kinds of pillows- soft fluffy/hard/big/small/flat-you could take your pick.
Both rooms had flat screen TVs.
The bathroom was very big. I liked the fluffy bathrobes and slippers.
Q22 was delicious- make sure you try the desserts.

We had three rooms which we booked through Wotif for $120 each.

The rooms were excellent with everything you could want.

My bathroom was a little small and could have had extra bench space but the shower was great with good pressure.

The other rooms were larger, some with quite large bathrooms.

Handy electric shoe cleaners/polishers on each level.

The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The room overlooking the street had double glazing cutting noise to zero.

We had a continental breakfast the next day which was well stocked and fresh.
