“Yummy beds”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

Even though the rooms don't look much from the outside are well appointed on the inside. Beds were yummy, warm and soft with electric blankets. Some kind soul had put my heater on so the room was warm too. The restaurant was somewhat chaotic, that needs a good manager, the food was basic but lots of it.

Room Tip: Try to get a balcony room. The others don't have good views.

Coming to Launceston for a footy match, Go Hawks, we were seeking a value for money, centrally located hotel with a functional gym. The Colonial Inn has it all and exceeded our expectations. Service was outstanding, new gym equipment and a short stroll from anything you could want.

I recently stayed two nights at the Colonial Launceston. I was in the Queen deluxe room with balcony. The room was pleasant with all the amenities you could need which included heating (the temperature during our trip was 0-10 degrees Celsius).

I would happily stay at the hotel again and recommend the restaurant attached to the hotel, Three Steps on George (see separate review on their page).

Points to notes for travellers. As some other reviews have said there is no lift so be aware of this when checking in. I was on the third floor, but the stairs were no bother to me. If you do have trouble with strait request a ground floor room on check-in. Staff are very friendly and obliging. Second point is be careful where you position the shower head in the shower as you may flood your bathroom, as I did he first day. But staff wet very quick to bring additional towels, so again no problem for me, but the staff did mention these does happen to quite a few guests during their first shower.

My only negative was breakfast, as it did not find the range large or some options appealing. I settled on gluten free toast and fruit salad (that was not fresh). I would prefer to eat at a cafe on next visit. A note for anyone who is gluten free staying at the hotel, there is a 100% gluten free cafe two blocks away which is amazing. It is called Samuel Pepy's cafe located in the Yorktown Square off Brisbane Street.

As a 28 year old from melbourne i have to say,I absolutely loved how much wood was used. It gave such a beautiful feel. A big fire place just sets the mood when you get in there, Then its just beautifal warm feeling wood from floor to ceiling. Definatly a highlight for me.Thank you. the rooms are very cool too. The food was delicious, hats off to head chef Brad. The service, The best in launceston. Cheers guys

Clean, tidy and comfortable at a good price. Virtually in the CBD it is an easy walk to everywhere in town. Friendly, courteous and helpful staff made us feel at home. Breakfast was excellent and unrushed. Good value for money. First time there so don't know what the full serviced apartments are like. Might try next time and there will be a next time.

Had a great time staying at the Colonial for 1 night. Our room was extremely large and the hotel was in the centre of town so we could walk to everything. The owner is really nice and very amusing, he showed dad and I around the hotel and told us about its incredible history. Thank you for the gift.

I've been staying here for a few years now, I travel over from Flinders Island and it's like a home away from home. It is close to town, the rooms are very comfortable bathrooms newly renovated and great meals. The staff are always very welcoming.
