“Not modern- $5/hour hour for wifi!!”
Reviewed 7 April 2014 via mobile

Stayed here two nights either side of an organised walk. Room was a re-furnished one but very dark. No free wifi in 2014 seems so backward, very annoying. Bed was comfy enough, everything was just ok, I agree with other reviewers, stay somewhere else & you won't be missing out too much.

Stayed here for a night after getting it as a mystery deal on Wotif

Was quite central to everything enjoyed a short walk to dinner and breaky... Also the monkeys in the park were great for a look.

Rooms were ok aged but all you need. Nice hotel friendly staff.

Friendly and efficient Staff. Checked in with ease. Rooms a large, well appointed, and quiet. Nice bar area and restaurant. We did not eat here, but the coffee was very good, and the bar service wonderful. I would definitely stay here again

If only everything at the HGC was as good as the front desk staff - alas it's all downhill after the check in. Some new bathroom fittings isn't good enough to call it a refurbished room. I totally agree with many of the remarks made by previous reviewers. It's overpriced and doesn't compare with many other Hotels in the City. There are better places to part with your money.

I have stayed here a number of times, and the standard is always good. The hotel staff are very helpful. It is a few minutes walk into the centre of the shopping area where there is a variety of stores to visit. The rooms are reasonable, especially the Superior rooms that have been recently upgraded. Parking is $6. breakfast is average- wish that you could order eggs to be cooked at the time- like other venues, as theirs are not nice. SOme rooms have windows that you can partly open- so nice to have fresh air.

Had stayed in this hotel for 3 nights and have to admit that it’s location was great, in the center of the city and close to shops, restaurants and parks. The exterior of the hotel looks much better than the interior, the room was spacious but aged with some broken furniture and soft mattresses, definitely need upgrade. The air-con was those stand alone type and very noisy. The room was quite stuffy even with the window opened. The breakfast buffet was OK but very limited choice and overpriced. If I come back in the future, I will try some other hotels in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: Try to get higher floor possible and away from the elevator if you have to stay at this hotel

We stayed here a couple of days ago at the end of a weeks touring around Tasmania. I got a great nightly rate off the Internet a week before staying. The rooms are nicely fitted out with two large double beds and a separate roomy bathroom. The only downfall was the usual shower over the bath which is a bit dangerous when getting out of onto a wet floor, so extra care needed. Our carparking wasnt included in the price which is annoying at $6 per night, why not throw that in the price. There were plenty of cafes in close vicinity to enjoy breakfast, or pay $25 per person to eat in the restaurant, that choice is up to you. In all, a well located Hotel close to inner Launceston.
