As a local I had heard lots of mixed reviews about this place so thought I'd try it for myself. Furniture uncomfortable and tables placed too close to one another and pop up walls. This combined with too much clutter and high noise volume detracts from the overall feel of the place. Food was good but the mains took too long to come. Reasonably priced. Wouldn't rush back

We came as a group of six on a chilly Wednesday night and were made welcome in a room that had a nice feel with a crowd abuzz with atmosphere. A young trainee was looking after our table and she did a great job - all night. Good menu with something for most tastes. We ordered a diversity and we were all generally happy with our dishes. The scallops were plump and plentiful but the batter a bit too salty. The chicken had good flavour although a little dry. Good steaks, served well - one was overcooked. The curry served a bit cool - not warmed through enough. So not a brilliant result but we enjoyed the evening, the atmosphere and much of the food. Maybe if it was a report card - "could do better".

We visited this restaurant on recommendation as a great family place that showcases Tassie dining. Unfortunately my wife and I were underwhelmed. The kids meal and mocktail for our three year old was great, and it was nice to see some vegetarian options, but the steak and topper was overrated and the wine list was very disappointing. Wasn't a bad night, but wouldn't go to the effort of returning. The highlight of the night was the cab ride home.

I flew back into Launceston and my husband picked me up from the airport. We decided to grab some dinner together before journeying home. I'd heard good things about Cateract on Peterson so thought we would try. We were relatively early for dinner so fortunately were able to get a table. Dinner was very nice and staff pleasant.
