Came for lunch, took 45 minutes to get meal, not ideal on a 1 hour lunch break when we both were obviously dressed in uniform. There were about 8 people in so shouldnt' take that long. Braised beef had gel on it and was tasteless, no seasoning in spinach and sweet potato. Pork belly risotto was little pieces of pork chopped up in risotto, tomatoes not cooked just raw cut up baby tomatoes. Not a pleasant experience.

The hotel is the old Australian style of a few rooms above what used to be the pub, but is now a very nice restaurant and bar. Great food, friendly service. The room was spacious and very clean. Facing the street which is a fairly noisy one way street in the middle of town, but with double glazing to prevent the noise. The only downside was the lack of internet. There is a network with the name of the hotel but despite being able to get through 3 screens to register to pay the fee, it didn't work. The wait staff said the server was down. That was to become a regular refrain on my trip to Tasmania. If it is down then why not turn the computer off so that it is not showing? Or (as is more likely) they just use it for their own use but can' be bothered supplying it to customers. That's fine for Launceston locals but if you want international customers then they need to get with the plan.

I stayed here for three nights; Thursday, Friday & Saturday And wish i had of paid a little more and stayed elsewhere. The room was small but that's ok and it did have everything that you need, however mine came with somethings I didn't need. The bedroom window frame was rotted and therefore did not close which was concerning from a security point of view. The room was extremely hot with no ventilation, even having the open window made very little difference which was extremely uncomfortable particularly at night. The bar fridge was disgusting and there was a broken bottle inside and something spilt throughout that had a horrible smell. And finally the noise. Now I knew that it was likely to be noisy given it is a bar however I did not realise just how loud it would be. Don't expect to be able to sleep before 2am and I was told I had a rear room so it shouldn't matter.

Visited in peak season so the staff were very very busy, but I found the staff very helpful and friendly, nothing was to much for them. The CBD location was terrific, so close to tourist spots/tour pick up & drop off/ shopping and for the foodies you don't need to leave the building. The Star Bar has some of the best pizzas I've ever tasted and their other meals were yummy. There was live music on the Friday and Saturday night (the staff warned me about the noise) but I didn't really notice it too much, too busy dancing I suppose. It is a very popular spot in Launceston and most nights you needed to book a table. After a busy day sightseeing it was great to get back and chill out in the cafe with a really good coffee.

As the name suggests, it's a bar and a restaurant. Guess you could count it as a cafe too. The room is clean and neat but very small. With an extra bed in we couldn't even open the fridge and kept bumping into things. I was afraid the noise problems would come from the bar below but instead it came from the carpark behind where some youths and others were making very loud noises with their cars, motorbikes, etc. until late at night. I think that's their hangout. Whatever it is, it was very disturbing. Strangely, there is also no one at the reception (never saw it being manned during our entire stay), so it's a bit incovenient to find people to help you, even find people to pay for your stay. We only managed cos we happended to "bump" into the staff. Or else you'll have to ask the bar staff. The location is convenient and it's easy to walk to the main shopping areas.

  • Liked — Location, neat, relatively clean
  • Disliked — Noise late at night, unmanned reception
