“excellent value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 October 2012

my family of four (kids aged 2.5 and 4.5) stayed two nights 28th/29th sept.

we had a family room (queen bed plus double pull out sofa) for $129 a night!!! I was worried we would get what we paid for which i think was not much money. However I was pleasantly surprised. clean, lovely rooms, what seemed to be a recently renovated bathroom in a lovely old building.

if extras bother you, there was always parking on the street. although the parking costs are nominal if you need it. further we had heard that breaky was disappointing. however just down the street we'd highly recommend Cuccina - great food but very popular. may be worth booking.

would definitely stay there again and will recommend to family and friends to do so.

Very beautiful building. Lovely sized and modernly decorated building. The manager was lovely and upgraded our room to the spa room upstairs. 10-15min walk to the city centre. Great 2 person spa bath. We were right next to the 2nd floor balcony in which we could enjoy a lovely view of Launceston. We picked the hotel for the history of it being a nun's convent. Would visit again

I have found the perfect place to stay in Launceston. I have tried a few for business but now know where I'll rest my head in future. A beautiful old convent restored & refurbished to modern standards. I had a room at back which meant a view over nice trees but not much else - deliberate choice to reduce costs for business. But the rooms at the front- wow! Views out over Launceston. Try the deluxe rooms with balcony & stunning night view. Lovely garden setting at front with views, grass to sit out on on a warm day and a cute gazebo. Sensational. Bed - a very comfortable nights sleep. Lovely fresh linen & towels. Good attention to detail. Warm welcome from Leon on arrival. And to top it off - a short walk to town & a great hilly walk to Cataract Gorge - about an hour round trip. Don't stay anywhere else in Launceston.

A great Hotel.
We stayed for two nights at the end of a 2 week touring holiday around Tasmania.

Booked at the last minute on wotif we were pleasantly suprised when shown the room and then offered an upgrade to one of their suites. The upgrade was a nominal extra charge and well worth it.

The suite was huge and extremely well appointed and comfortable, even though we didn't spend a lot of time in the room.

the service was exceptional, with restaraunt recommendations and also arranging a booking for us. Also suprising was the staff delivering some items we left behind to the cafe we were having breakfast at down the road after we had checked out.

I would highly recommend the Auldington as a base in Launceston to tour the Tamar valley and also down into the central highlands.

when we get back to launceston we will definately be staying there again.

We recently had four days based in beautiful Launceston for a conference. We arrived early minus bags which had gone to another Australian city courtesy of our airline but the manager made us most welcome and suggested an array of trips and activities that suited our timeframe perfectly. We upgraded to the spa room, big, comfy and very nice. Despite the hotel being full on one night we were undisturbed. The whole place has a lovely charm about it and it is a great base to explore the city from. We would thoroughly recommend this to anyone and felt that it was excellent value. We were sad to leave.

I travel for business, and like most companies are now squeezed on expenses. I trolled the internet sites for a good deal, and came up with what appeared not a bad deal at the Auldington.

On check in I was met by manager/owner. He matched the local internet price available that suited me

It was a late check in and I was not paying too much attention, albeit I was stunned by the parking charge. Although only $5.50, I took it as petty. Also,he offered me a continental breakfast, in which I was under the impression was part of the package, to later find it on the bill

The complex, is on the edge of the CBD, so a decent walk or drive into city is required, for meals and the local unpredictable weather could be an issue if on foot.

Rooms were nice. Great bathroom. No electric blanket, heating was avarage.

Value for money and bang for your buck was OK, but I hate hidden extras, especially travelling for business where compamnies no longer cover out of pockets.

I would say couples on holidays would enjoy this place, but for travelling sales people who dont want any surprises, there3 are plenty of better options. Try the Penny Royal. Great Resteraunt. Good Service, closer walk to lots of eateries. I stayed there for 2 nights after the Auldington, due to the above

We came across the Auldington on the last night of our around-Tasmania holiday. A lucky, drive-up find! The old convent is in a good location and we had a second floor, front room with a large balcony view over Launceston. It was a bright and spacious bedroom with great en-suite facilities. Although the hotel is a Victorian era building, the furnishing in our suite was comfortable, tasteful and minimalist.
It was only a short walk into town and to a choice of nearby restaurants.
Who cares about a small $5 parking charge when you're on holiday! Leon's hospitality makes up for that.
