“A real gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Ballyvista in late March (driving from Sydney to Melbourne via the Princes Highway). Our room was beautifully furnished with up-to-date facilities; the port and chocolates were a unique (and delicious) touch. Andrea and Keith were very helpful in suggesting a walk along the nearby riverfront and a traditional downtown restaurant for dinner. The gardens were absolutely gorgeous; our hosts are much better gardeners that I am!

Thank you sincerely for taking the time to write a review about Dalfruin B&B in East Gippsland.
When you travel whether its locally, nationally or internationally, its so important that wherever
your accommodation is, that you are made to feel welcome, that the accommodation is clean, and that everything is there for you to help you enjoy your stay.
Great to get feedback that says we are trying to achieving that for our guests.

Take care hosts and owners
Andrea & Keith.

My stay at the Ballyvista and Dalfruin B&B was an overnight business trip to Bairnsdale, I was delighted with the attention to detail that has gone into setting up the rooms, the bed is large and very comfortable, fantastic bathroom, everything you could need for your stay has been thought of. Even though you are close to the town, the rooms are very quiet. I will definitley be going back each time I go to Barinsdale.

Thank you this lovely review. It is so important whether you are on business or holiday that
you find everything as near to perfect as possible.
Dalfruin is close to the CBD and in a quiet location, which makes it ideal for our guests and for us. We hope to see you next time you are back in Bairnsdale

Thinking we would get a bit closer to home after driving across the great alpine way we had not worried to book any accommodation so with 7 pm approaching I went on line to find some where to stay. Many of the other accommodations in Bairnsdale were fully booked - Lucky for us as we certainly happened upon something special.

On arrival Keith and Andrea were welcoming hosts, that showed us around the garden apartment where we were staying and then suggested the main hotel for dinner - which was great.

The bed was wonderful with beautiful linen and the breakfast provisions were more than sufficient.

A truly wonderful find that we could not recommend highly enough.

Thank you for this wonderful review, It is lovely when you find accommodation that you love
The Garden Apartment is a perfect setting for relaxing. Glad you found the bed comfortable
that is something our guests comment on in all the apartments. Am sure Keith wonders if we have a 100 room apartments the amount of linen I purchase, I do have a weak spot for bed linen
and plants! How many plants does one woman need he asks.
If coming this way again please call in

We are both well travelled internationally and Australia wide, an easy going couple. We really enjoyed the one nights stay at this lovely property which was clean, in lovely surroundings and with nice touches with chocs and port. Walking distance into town in a quiet area. Left within the room for us was travellers feedback from the owners. I had said to my partner how sad that I couldnt give fellow travellers a 5 star rating as the mattress on our slatted base bed was so bad that I had little sleep. We wrote this in the feedback so it could be addressed by the owners and not affect their rating. Upon departure we casually joked about no Internet connection in the room and that one man was siting outside at night in the cold with the same problem. The internet wasnt an issue for us just for owners info. Half an hour after leaving we received quite a defensive email from the owners stating that the Internet was our problem and the bed had never been an issue before, both of of these issues have in fact been an issue through the booking site reviews before. We both felt the owners over reacted to simple matters that should have been dealt with via this forum. This site is for fellow travellers but also for owners to take not just the positives but also how they can improve their property, I see that as a win win situation

Thank you writing this nice review and the fact that you thought BallyVista Apartment was lovely
tells us that.
The phone message on your mobile was to say you had left your mobile charger behind,
when we had no reply from that call, we did send an email to tell you thinking you would either reply saying 'please post back' or we have lots of other chargers, We had no replies.

The mattress is brand new but you commented about the slat base which is healthy these days and does not sink. The next night we had another couple stay in BallyVista and ironically they commented on how well they slept in that bed, how great the mattress was, as does everyone else, so do not know why one of you did not sleep, a multitude of reasons perhaps.
Wi-Fi is free as you know and the majority of people use it for business, or whilst travelling which we encourage. Keith did check after you left the signal and found the Wi/Fi perfect on his smart phone which was what we did say in our email.
The other guest from another apartment was very happy and his Wi/Fi did work when we worked out he had not logged in correctly, which may have been your problem, It may help if you mentioned things early and not when you are leaving.

Most people are well travelled these days, as we are, which is why we like you to be comfortable, to ensure everything works.
We hope your trip to Bright which looks lovely in Autumn was everything you hoped for
The charger you obviously do not need.
Warm wishes
Andrea & Keith

We had booked a garden apartment, our preference being self-contained accommodation in a B&B. We do not like to share a house with owners, the reason we only book self-contained.

On arrival, we were told they had double booked and we would be “upgraded” to the room in the main house with a sitting room. This was ours, but the owners living quarters were in adjoining rooms and their sleeping area was upstairs. We would not have booked this if we had known. We also did not have a kitchen, nice to cook up some breakfast before we leave.

The room was clean, there was comfortable furniture in the sitting room, decorated with period furnishings. Bathroom a little cluttered with the towel rack and claw bath, some people no doubt would appreciate this.

The bed; We found the mattress whilst initially comfortable, we kept rolling into the middle. We have not experienced a bed like this for many years, perhaps the spring bed base. My husband spent the night scrambling up the side of the bed.

The shower was great, also a nice claw bath in the room which we were too tired to use. Good Wi-Fi available as well.

The owners were very nice, arranged dinner for us at a local restaurant and were very accommodating. Nice little touches, with chocolates and biscuits.

Breakfast was continental, (not traditional as in cheese meats etc.) there were cereals, jams, vegemite, toast, juice.

The room we actually booked looked lovely from the outside and the garden around it was also lovely. I cannot comment on that, as we didn’t see it. However, if you like traditional B&B’s with period furnishing and nick knack’s, this is the one for you.

The only thing I did particularly dislike, apart from the bed and the change of booked accommodation, was the scented sheets (fabric softener perhaps), also the deodoriser in the bathroom that kept shooting out unnatural scents in the night. And the toilet freshener thing in the front of the toilet bowl which was not very practical for men using the toilet.(These smells are our personal preference as we do not like heavily scented linen or areas)

Thank you for the nice review and we do know your husband loved the place.

As we said at the commencement of your stay you had booked the Garden apartment for a cheaper tariff but unfortunately due to a mix up at our end, we placed you in Dalfruin which is more expensive having its own lounge, dining room, plus of course queen size bedroom and ensuite with a bath, which we gathered you enjoyed. The Garden apartment does not have a claw bath.

The tariff was kept to the same you paid for the Garden, and therefore breakfast was likewise
but with the luxury of halve a house all to yourself.

Dalfuin is completely separate from owners accommodation as you know, and we did not see you at all, except for helping you, as we do with all guests at the beginning, with where to eat, and in your case a taxi because you planned to partake of a few drinks.

You had planned to eat out for dinner, and you had also planned to eat breakfast on the way, because of leaving very early the next morning,. Which I thought we needed to be on the safe side and still have breakfast there for you in case you changed your mind.

Breakfast was on the table at 6.30am and we did speak to your charming husband on his way back from a lone early morning walk, He did say the evening meal was excellent, he had slept well, and enjoyed his stay, and thought the house and gardens were lovely.

We smiled about the perfumed sheets, we wash the sheets, and never thought of making them smell of perfume, what a romantic idea. However, not everyone would want that, so we don't

Warm regards to you both, hope you feel better soon.

Owners and hosts Andrea & Keith

The hosts were wonderful and very helpful. The B&B is gorgeous and in a very quiet location which was within easy walking distance of town. The rooms are beautifully decorated and all a traveller's needs are though of. I had one of the best sleeps I've had for a long time.

It is great to know you enjoyed your stay at our Dalfruin B&B , it is in a quiet location away from
Princess Highway which means you do hopefully do get a good night's sleep and yet you are close enough to walk into the CBD.
We do take pride in making sure the apartments are well appointed and equipped with everything you need to make you feel comfortable. Next time you are down in our lovely
