Great venue for events, music, theatre etc. amazing use of an old disused gaol complex. Where ever you sit you will get a good view of the stage and the bar is well stocked with local premium wines. I've been there for comedy shows, music shows and ballet and enjoyed them all.

What a fascinating place built in and around an old gaol. To create a place of enjoyment on a place of historical misery is pure genius- who comes up with these ideas? As a venue it is all you could ask for, I will be checking out shows here going forward even though it is a little further than Melbourne for me it is worth the extra k's. Thoroughly enjoyed Tex Perkins but the lighting person did have a bad night. Love the venue and love the name of it Ulumbarra, meaning: gather together or meeting place in the language of the Dja Dja Wurrung people.

This recently constructed theatre within the precincts of an old disused gaol is extremely well designed - each seat of the approx 1000 seat theatre has a good view of the stage and the acoustics are first class. Stage is one of the largest in Australia. A great asset to the city. The Visitors Information Centre run tours of this theatre & old prison. The facilities are shared with the Bendigo Secondary College.

A great performance space ... but to understand the history of the place and the integration of the old and the new is to really appreciate what the complex is about. Our tour was conducted by a school teacher who was at the staff meeting when the principal oulined his vision which was received with some scepticism. How fortunate we are to have visionaries like this man to lead to such a marvellous facility that is linked to the local school and the whole community. The history of the goal is interesting in its own right but the preservation of the history and the addition of not just a theatre but a community arts facility is a wonderful story. The involvement of the whole community in the planning and particularly the orignal owners is also a good news story. A real surprise

What an amazing performance venue, with great foyer space, beautiful bathroom, and comfortable seats with excellent stage view. A great blend of the old goal and the modern performance theatre.
