A trip on a paddle steamer is a must for the tourist in Echuca. We were there mid week, so plenty or room to move around. The commentary was informative, and the trip was peaceful and relaxing. Master 9 really enjoyed the whole experience of seeing the steam engine operating, and the wheel house. The certificate is a nice momento for him.

I loved that everyone was so friendly, and I loved that as we were going along they described about the Pevensey and all the other riverboats.

Enjoyed the river cruise aboard the P.S Pevensey, the hour goes very quickly though. I paid extra during the school holidays for my children to be involved in an on-board cooking class which they enjoyed. They also enjoyed being able to visit the wheel house and get a certificate for doing so.

When in Echuca we decided to have a trip down the Murray on a paddle steamer.

There are a few to choose from and we travelled on the PS Paveney.

Our trip was an hour return, and that was just enough to give us a taste of the river and time long past.

You see the stoking of the steamer, the river gums and a variety of steamers that travel up and down the river.
The whole place is full of history, and was an enjoyable hour spent travelling on the Murray.

Dont get too hung up on which Steamer you travel upon, they all seem pretty good.

Yes, you get to see some other wonderful paddlesteamers on the Murray river and Echuca Port is also very scenic, but in reality the river views themselves are just OK.

Having said that, you have to do this for the paddlesteamer experience, which is like stepping back in time. Sit at the front of the boat for a nice breeze as it get's hot at the back due to a lack of a breeze. But then again we did go on one of the hottest days of the year when it topped 45deg by midday!

Echuca and a trip on a paddlesteamer makes a really lovely day out. If you want a nice lunch afterwards, head to the Star Hotel opposite the entrance to the paddlesteamers.

Prices were about $23pp for a trip on the paddlesteamer, and $29pp (or thereabouts per adult) to include a ohe hour talking tour of the port after the ride.

Yes cruising down the Murray on a 100 year old paddle steamer is certainly about the "experience" but I think the river views add to the experience by allowing the mind to wander and imagine just how it would have been 100 years ago. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
