Steampacket Inn

An impetuous decision to visit Echuca for the weekend had us booked into the Steampacket Inn. A great decision. Someone had booked Room 8 (recommended by others in TA reviews) so we upgraded to the loft.
Another great decision.
The room was totally private, had a large living space as well as a super comfy bedroom, loads of hanging space and the best shower ..........
The view wasn't great, but it allowed us to have wide open windows, which we like.
Check-in was seamless and we had two excellently presented breakfasts along with very helpful recommendations from the host.
As luck would have it the Echuca Show was on - ponies, chooks, bulls, showbags, the full catastrophe, so that also added to the weekend.
Would recommend the Steampacket any time.

Room Tip: The loft gives, privacy, comfort and extra space. Worth the slightly higher rate. There is no view...

Stayed here for two nights with two other couples. They all had new modern en suites, I had an old ensuite which really needs refurbishment. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water. There is nowhere to hang clothes. Not even a coat hanger! Didn't see the property manager at all except for when we arrived. Rooms serviced daily bit it would have been good to have the option of not changing the sheets etc each day. Bit of a waste. All in all however, pleasant place to stay.

My husband, adult daughter and I shared a triple room for an overnight stay in Echuca. How pleasantly surprised we were! They room was spacious with one double and a single bed and ensuite. Very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was yummy too! The owner was very helpful and polite. There was also a courtesy pick up and drop off to the railway station. Unfortunately our stay was way to short. Will definitely be staying here next time we visit Echuca.

We stayed for two week nights. Our room was great, upstairs on corner - large, comfortable, clean and warm. Other rooms looked nice too. The inn is part of Echuca's history and its decor reflects this. A bit unfortunate that there was no one on premises when we arrived, but on calling the number on door we received instructions to let ourselves in and it was explained to us that manager had been suddenly called away. Next morning we had a really nice breakfast and met the fill-in manager who was very warm and friendly and apologised for any initial inconvenience. The inn is right opposite the wharf precinct with all its history and attractions and the wonderful Star Hotel is just down the road, and indeed are a number of cafe's and hotels nearby. It's location is central to just about anything you may want to do in a short stay in Echuca. We would definitely recommend it and would stay there again.

Stayed two nights., first impressions very good - but a bit expensive if you do not get one of the deals. Theoretical great view of the old port but it was a building site when we stayed there - so the view was compromised.

The owner seems not really interested in her guests. The B&B is lacking details - like hand towels.

You pay for the location.

Room Tip: Go for number 8. Best view

The perfect place for our taste - old world but not 'chintzy', a beautiful old building with ancient peppercorn trees outside, and right on the Murray River with steamboats going past. Cost was $168/night including a lovely cooked breakfast. Location is directly in the old port area of Echuca, which means that, in the early mornings and in the evenings when it's pretty deserted, you step out of this historic building into a riverside scene that in many ways hasn't changed much for 100 years - highly atmospheric. Loved the view of the river from our room through the peppercorn trees. Highly recommended; we will be back.

Stayed one night, first impressions good but a bit expensive. In middle of town accepted that. Told when signing in extra as paying on credit card. Went to make coffee for supper and that is when the trouble started. Long Life milk rotten, use by date out by a month. Shampoo had obviously been used before. Had to ring owner as no one in reception. Took fifteen minutes to bring fresh milk. She advised she does not check on her housekeepers work. Replaced the shampoo with bad grace. Also no face washer or hand towel supplied. The ensuite so small you cannot really dry yourself in there. Next morning breakfast good but body language terrible she was still acting like we put her out the night before. Definiting will not be back and will not recommend it.
