I wonder what i am getting into when I am booked into the Country Comfort Botanical in Hamilton. Then I read a few reviews and am heartened .
The restaurant is small but fits a surprising number of people. The decorator in me enjoys what looks like a recent refurb - I think the room is very attractive and there is a small adjoining bar.
Wine by the glass has a good, well priced list while we order our meal. You do have to go to a counter to order your meal , and to the bar for drinks, but everything is handled efficiently and quickly. Water for the table is chilled at the bar.
The menu favours the carnivore it has to be said. But there is a risotto on there. The soups prove to be delicious - we try a couple over different days. Some one has a good hand with these, the mushroom is good, and the pumpkin with a faint asian tang is lovely.
Our meals are all good . Lamp, steak, salt and pepper squid. The char grilled veg on the side are tasty. Serves are generous. I do think a salad and one or two lighter dishes would be welcome, but the food is very good and comes promptly.
There is a mix of locals, business and family groups visiting and all seem pleased with their lot.
There are lovely pastries on display for after .....very tempting .....
