Description: Dogs Bar is Melbourne's oldest small bar, located on the leafy surrounds of Acland Street in vibrant StKilda. Off the main tourist strip, here you will enjoy a very local vibe with artists, models and accountants mixing with the world to create Dogs Bar's iconic feel. With a classic European interior, an extensive range of wines by the glass and bottle along with Australian Craft Beers, the Modern Australian menu accommodates all of these elements with a range of shared food, mains, desserts and cheeses. Drop in. It'll be fun.

We met up with a group of friends here for drinks before heading out to dinner. The atmosphere is great - very cosy on a cool night, with an open fire roaring in the background. The staff are friendly, and the bar service was fine.

Although we didn't eat here, the food did look good and we were almost tempted. Might head back and try it some other time.

A good place to settle in for a drink on a cold evening - we were there on a Saturday and although still not very busy when we left at 6:30pm, it had a good and warm vibe.

We use to visit regularly on business an it would be 12 months since I last visited. Use to love the Duck tortellini. Visited on a Tuesday or Monday evening (can't remember)and ordered my favourite meal but it was very disappointing. The service was slow, and there was another couple next to me that had waited a long time for their meal and were complaining it wasn't so busy. Might have just hit a bad night with the chef. Will visit again and try in the new year.... hope its improved again as it was my fav St Kilda restaurant especially if your on your own, you can sit in back un noticed and work or read and relax

Dear Hourdy,
It's a year later and much has changed down at your (formerly) favourite StKilda haunt! We are new owners and I managed Dogs Bar for several years back in its heyday - that's why I wanted to come back and fix it! We'd love it if you have the opportunity to give us a try; the menu is certainly much different but our focus on quality food and wine you won't find in Dan Murphys is paramount. Hope you can swing by some time!

Great bar with good food, excellent drinks and friendly service. On a Monday night they even have live music which adds something to the experience

I am a bit biased, I met a man here in 2004 who is now my husband. However I've been coming back to this place again and again since the early '90's and it has remained consistently fantastic.

The wine selection is broad enough to cover all tastes, and excellent quality at very reasonable prices. The bar service is friendly and quick. The food is always well prepared and tasty, and their selection of antipasta is always good. In cool weather the two open fires are on to warm the room, and in summer they open their doors right across the front of the building to allow the breeze through. Sitting on the outdoor tables on a sunny afternoon is one of the great joys of this place, with a glass of wine, good friends and watching the passing parade.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the crowd seems more 'grown up' than many of the clubs and bars around St Kilda. It's open till after midnight and is favoured by locals, so you rarely find rowdy groups of young blokes on a big night out.

I live an hour out of Melbourne, and if I want to meet with someone from out of town, this is where we meet. Simply fantastic.

This place was accidentally stumbled upon by a late night drive for dinner in St Kilda.
We parked directly outside the restaurant and went inside which was warm and quiet with a few people. We seated ourselves and waited to order, there was no table service so we went up to the counter and got ourselves some menus and ordered. Despite the service the food came pretty promptly and smelling wonderful.

We ordered bread and dips, duck tortellini and carbonara pasta. The tortellini was AMAZING! The duck was so soft and tender and the tortellini was fried and crunchy.

After dinner live local music was played by local musician and the restaurant/bar filled up with people. The music was a mix of original and existing tunes, the fireplace was kept burning and made the place warm and cosy - definitely a great find.
