Owner description: One fine day in December in 1970, Cr. Manning declared The Art Bank, now St Kilda Esplanade Market, officially open. Noting the high expense of holding art exhibitions, Cr. Manning had asked several artists and sculptors if they would like to exhibit at a new Art Bank in the Upper Esplanade. James Egan, now a national living treasure, and Ruth Epps were among the first twenty stalls. Set against the iconic backdrop of St Kilda Beach, our vibrant makers' market features over 120 unique stalls of hand crafted artwork, wood products, jewellery, accessories and more. An inspiring weekly destination for Melbournians and tourists alike. The Market has always been a starting platform for new artists to begin their careers and in some cases is so loved by stallholders that they have stayed on for as long as the full forty two years it has been running. We hope you will find us for another forty years to come, selling quality handmade art and craft in the iconic beachside suburb of St Kilda.

Acquaintances will know that i have a large head. 61cm plus. Before leaving UK i tried everywhere - including a couple of Amazon efforts. Spent Summer in Portuga. V small heads.
First place in the market and a choice of 3 hats that fitted. All lovely. And husband of stall holder born in Tynemouth. Lovely hat, almost geordie seller, stunning location, fab.

We were just down in St Kilda for a few hours and had planned to visit the market. Nice selection of stalls with a variety of different items for sale. Only downside was that there were not as many stalls as we had anticipated. This was perhaps due to the fact that it was Xmas Eve. However, what was there was excellent.

Take your time, get there early & stroll along the St Kilda Esplanade & feast yourself on over 150 stalls of this gorgeous market! All the stalls have original handmade unique items ranging from adorable animal ornaments to quirky wooden money boxes. take a break for coffee & when your done start all over again as you're bound to find stuff you missed. if its a nice day you can walk on the beach go to Luna park or visit trendy Acland street! YOU WILL NOT FIND BETTER CRAFT MARKETS IN MELBOURNE they put the rubbish Queen Vic to shame!!!

I really enjoyed visiting the Esplanade Markets the other Sunday while I was in Melbourne. It has a lovely beach setting of the St Kilda beach.
There was a nice variety of arts themed shops for browsing and shopping including hand-made and home-made jewellery, purses, body products such as soaps, bath bombs, scents as well as candles and home decor items such as planters, wooden display pieces, magnets, bag tags, themed prints and many more! :) I enjoyed purchasing a funky Melbourne magnet, a bag tag and a gorgeous print with a nice message, for my home.
After shopping, there were some food and drinks and dessert stalls to enjoy an early light meal. These options included fish and chips and some seafood as well as Turkish, Italian, some refreshing home made drinks and crepes.
A MUST DO if you are in Melbourne over Sunday morning. These Markets open all day from 10-5pm. I give it top stars as they are probably one of my favourite Sunday markets in terms of variety of stalls, their classic things for sale and the relaxed vibes and the fun buzz around the area.

I’ve been to the three main markets in Melbourne (that I know of) and the St Kilda ones would be the top of my list. It’s more of a classic market with the individual stalls selling everything from hand-roasted nuts to tie-dye shirts and spray painted caps. There’s a food section and coffee, and the prices are very reasonable. The best part about it though is that it’s smack on the beach. It is small so it won’t take a day, but it’s great to add to a beach day or trip to Luna park!
