WhiteShell Beach Inn

Reviewed 29 September 2013

we spend 3 nights at this hotel which located on Maafushi.
we had a simple but clean room facing the water, few steps from the water.
considering the high prices in the Maldives, this hotel is an excellent deal.

Booked the hotel stay on Hotels.com. Specified that the party was for 3 adults, but was informed that the room we booked was only for 2 adults. We then had to pay extra for an upgrade to a room for 3 adults. The attitude of the hotel manager wasn't even in the least apologetic.

What made the trip better was the attention to detail in arranging for our daily trips. The fishing trip was a highlight, we caught almost 30 fishes. The snorkel at the house reef was also a beautiful one. Saw a baby shark in addition to many beautiful fishes. The houseflies were persistently annoying. The beach in front of the hotel wasn't the best of beaches in Maldives. While cheap, this is definitely not the Maldives which we always see marketed. Come only because your purse strings are tight.

Room Tip: Try to get a room nearer the reception for better Wi-Fi reception

The rooms are perfectly adequate but the price is too high. The rooms are clean etc but pretty bare. Paid 105 per night. The beach outside isn't great. The breakfast was pitiful. Generally, it seems to be about the best place around for a 'budget' traveler in the Maldives: if you must come to the Maldives stay here, otherwise skip them altogether.

Also, for those curious, it was easy to reach Maafushi via public ferry (~1.50$).

The hotel is really nicely located, just outside the beach. The rooms are very clean, with good air conditioning, really nice bathroom, TV etc. The towels are changed everyday and rooms are cleaned everyday. The place is extremely safe. But actually this is the Staff of the hotel that makes the place heaven on earth. Hassan organises everything, is really helfpul, and works really hard to make everyone happy. They even organised a trip to the Maldivian school for me, ( as a teacher I'm really interested in that). Actually Hassan took me there, arranged the meeting with the teachers and children and didn't want anything for that. Really honest and friendly people. One of the teacher told me that White Shell donates a lot of money for the school. Really helpful and kind waiters, especially one boy and a girl are are really helpfull. When we were leaving the Staff got up at 6 o'clock and they saw us off to the ferry. The place is great for children, as the ocean is really calm. I definitely recommend this place and definitely coming back there next year.

This was a nice hotel for someone looking for budget (or just sensible!) priced accommodation in the Maldives. The room was lovely and clean. Very helpful staff and a nice breakfast. It was also interesting to see the local culture. Also lots of excursions offered... I was taken by speed boat to snorkel on banana reef. It was my first time snorkelling and I was pretty nervous, I was well looked after by the guide and it was fantastic lots of colourful fish, its a new world.

Not wanting to spend hundreds of dollars a night to stay at a Maldivian resort, I opted to stay at White Shell Beach Inn on Maafushi Island. White Shell has the best location on the island with it's own private beach and good snorkeling is just offshore. It has a good restaurant, excellent and friendly staff and very clean and comfortable rooms.

Excursions to nearby resorts and islands are simple to arrange and the accommodating staff do their very best to make sure you have an enjoyable time.

Why stay at one resort when you can stay at White Shell and visit a variety of resorts for half the price? I highly recommend White Shell as an alternative to the pricey resorts.

This was a trip for 13 people in total for a 6 nights 7days- inclusive of parents and friends from Germany, Hungary and Singapore and they had the time of their life!

Arrival Pickup:
We had to arrange for 3 separate speedboat pickups due to the different flight arrivals- all the pickups were on time and the staff were really helpful with the elders. The ride was approximately for 30mins and upon arrival, the staff gave us a really warm welcome by passing the ladies flower leis and the men coconut leaf hats.

Rooms:
We booked in total 8 rooms. Being the wedding couple, we were given the sea view room and we absolutely loved it! The room was clean and the view was stunning. For the price of the rooms per night, it is actually quite reasonable given it's location.

Food:
All of us loved their seafood platter! As we were a big group, we often arranged for a sharing style Maldivian meal which consists of rice, roshi, local soup, grilled seafood and their handmade chilli... it's so delicious! In our group we have got 3 chefs... so if they say it's nice, it's good!

Bag full of surprises:

1.Maldivian-style Wedding
The guest house planned a traditional Maldivian wedding for us. They had all the guests and my husband sent on a private speedboat to a picnic island. I had Maldivian children and the drum group accompanying me from the guest house to the jetty- I felt like a celebrity! Upon arrival at the picnic island, I had additional dancers joining the group as my father walked me along the beach towards my husband. The whole setting was incredibly romantic with the sun setting and as we exchanged our vows. After we were done with the ceremony, we were led to the shelter area for a private dinner before we took the boat back to the island.

2.Sandbank Sunset Dinner
The setup at the sandbank by the guest house simply blew us away! The sandbank had tiki torches that led to the sand table and chairs that fitted all 13 of us in. There was a huge camp fire thing set up in the middle of the sandbank… they made beautiful sand sculptures of different sea creatures near the dining area. We had a BBQ going on as we had other cooked local food. The amount of effort put in by the staff and the way the setup looked, it’s incredible! We work in a luxurious 5 star resort and I can tell you, this setup is similar if not better!

A big thank you from the bottom of our hearts! It is such an incredibly trip for us and especially my family and friends who were there for the 1st time. It was so really nice to not only be in the Maldives but also to have contact with the locals. This special treatment you have given to us and the experience is simply priceless.

Room Tip: Request for the sea view room!
