“Great hotel”

I really enjoyed my travel to maafushi, I stayed in picnic inn hotel 2 weeks, clean rooms with good room service, WiFi, great restaurant with wide range of local/international foods, very friendly and helpful staff and also cheapest price that I found in maafushi. Free bikes were great to ride around the island.

We had an excellent stay at the Picnic Inn on Mafuushi.
The staff is great and very helpfull. The room was big and clean and nice shower.
The courtyard was nice to chill out and the wifi was stable.
And you can take the free bikes to roam around the island.

First, let me start from the pick-up. I could not find anybody with the Hotel flash card on out arrival at Maafushi jetty. After 5 mins, a person came asking if we are looking for Picnic Inn and took us to the hotel. We were very pleased to be welcomed with a refreshing drink on arrival not realizing what was to come ahead!

1. Hotel area is full of mosquitoes.

2. When the hotel staff was leaving Joel after showing us the room, the bathroom door was open (as I had just taken a look inside). He, very rudely, told us keep the door shut always unless required to be opened. When I asked him if there was any special reason (mosquitoes?) for this, he again rudely replied "No, keep it closed because I am telling you"! God!.. I was wondering if I was a guest or a prisoner!

3. No locker facility in the room. I believe this is very important for beach hotels!

4. No hot water kettle in room.

5. No telephone in room.

6. Most basic... the hand shower in the bathroom could hardly throw 2 feet of water; plus no alternate head shower available.

7. Leave aside other toiletries, even a basic soap is not present in the bathroom

8. As Maldives is very close to India and as most of the hotel staff is from Bangladesh, people are aware of Indian choices. So, everybody knows about tea with milk (the way we Indians prefer it). Even Joel was aware about it as when we asked for evening tea, he asked me back whether I require black tea or milk tea. When I informed him about my preference of milk tea, he bluntly replied that he has only gold milk. We countered politely that if that was the case, he may heat it up. He agreed; albeit reluctantly!
Even worse, his first answer when we asked him for tea was a blunt reply "It will be chargeable."

8. The AC is at extremes - either off (too hot) or too cold. Only another bed-sheet was provided to pull-over while sleeping. So, we asked for a blanket / quilt. Yes!.. as expected... "We don't provide blanket.. I can give you extra one more bed-sheet". I took it (had little option :( .. ).

9. I went out again (no telephone .. you see).. to ask him for some soap in the bathroom.. reply was expectedly shocking... "We provide soap only on request... you go now, I will give you tomorrow morning" ...Hilarious! .. By then, we had made up our mind to move to a better place and had even struck a deal with another hotel on the same island (that would be my next review)

9. As we had opted for half-board, we were served dinner -- very dry noodles with even dryer salad (aka cabbage!).. which we had to push down our throats!

10. No sleep.. reasons being AC/ no blanket and also huge rock hard pillows!

11. All this for USD 100 per day ... no way... We earn for better isn't it?

12. Final nail in the coffin --- Next day's breakfast... tea was served with cold milk!

We checked out immediately!

Very impressed with our two nights here and we were both very sad to leave. This is an incredibly well run guesthouse with competitively low room prices.

Comfy bed. Clean. Very good pillows.

The staff here really can't do enough for you.

The food at the hotel is around $4-$12, so for the Maldives this is a very reasonable price. And the food was nice too! And the menu is huge!

Would definitely recommend this for your stay in Maafushi for a good budget option, you will not be disappointed.

Stayed here as a couple in Jan 2014.

It is a very decent place. the rooms were clean and house keeping was done everyday. The only problem in this type of inn is food. Other than that it was impressive. The care taker was a bit annoyed and become angry with us after the food incident as we felt that USD 10-00 was a bit expensive for dinner when a nearby inn only charged USD 5.00 for dinner.

a decent place for budget traveller, however i have to say almost all the guesthouse in maafushi is really nice n clean. they do housekeeping almost everyday. however dont expect that is two bottled water awaits u everyday. u have to buy with just USD 1 for 500ml and USD 2 for 1500ml. in the meantime Maafushi is a local island so its not so well kept and the beach is not so nice as other do. Maafushi dont have alcohol and u might buy from a boat that is parking near jetty (ask around^.^).
there is a staff who named Jowel is really helpful. he will recommend any places that you would like to go. they provide speedboat transfer (airport) USD 178 for day and USD 200 for night. if u would like to go for excursions take up islands like Filahalhohi is a really nice island which have house reef and the dolphins would be somewhere there.( boat transfer to island around USD10-25 /pax entrance for island fihalhohi USD 25 lunch buffet USD 24). you might also vist biyadhoo island, which you might see sting ray, eagle ray, black tip shark, octopus, turtles and napoleon fish. this island have spa which cost USD 45 for early bird. (Biyandhoo transfer USD 8-15 entrance USD 30) meanwhile if u would like to try a luxury resort, try cocoa island boat transfer US10-20 entrance USD 150 includes light lunch and massage by shambala. A desert island (Picnic Island) is worth visit for sit down relax walkaround the beach but not snorkeling. diving trip and night fishing is provided as well, night fishing the fish that you caught is for barbeque and its free of charge for this service.
