“Excellent food and fantastic service”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

I had breakfast and coffee several times there and being a cook myself I was very pleased with the meals. Everything was cooked using fresh ingredients and it was fantastic on the palate. I would definitely recommend anyone stopping in Bunbury to go there and experience it themselves.

“Sparse main ingredients”
Reviewed 26 October 2013

Had lunch here today and had been keenly looking forward to it due to all the positive feedback. Started with coffee and noticed it being made with full cream milk rather than skim, which wasn't a good start. Went over and advised her - she then studied what had been written for quite a while and still couldn't see where it plainly said skim, but eventually proceeded to make it as I had ordered. That aside, coffee was then served promptly and meals came out soon after that. I had ordered Tandoori chicken salad with spicy chickpeas. At first glance, the salad looked enormous, but I was very disappointed to discover it was mainly a pile of various greens. Not as much chicken as I would have thought and a total of 6 or 7 chickpeas. Seriously, for a salad where chickpeas are listed as the second ingredient I would have thought there would be substantially more. My friend had the Hippy Salad with Quinoa, Roast sweet potato and several other ingredients in it and even I was shocked at the meagre amount of quinoa that came out on the plate. Considering it is supposed to be the main ingredient there was not much at all. Overall very disappointed by the food (or should I say lack of it) for the price and will not be going back.

“Good but could be better”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

We had breakfast here and enjoyed it. Fresh, well presented and tasty food. Great coffee. Absolutely terrible hot chocolate (aka lightly coloured milk) which seems to be a theme in Bunbury. Busy weekend morning so the place felt a little bit cramped and staff seemed quite busy. Service a little bit lacking - walked in and were ignored as we looked around for an empty table then looked around for menus which we couldn't find. Once we ordered our food and found a table though the service was friendly enough and quick. Would recommend to others but probably better when it's not so busy.

“So much raving reviews, gimmicky food that misses the mark!”
Reviewed 6 October 2013

Restaurant :
The happy wife rated no 1 in bunbury by tripadvisor.

Ambience :
Casual beachfront chic cafe all rolled into one, together with young and
enthusiastic service staff.

Service
Fast and personable. So far so good.

Food :
This is where it starts to go downhill.
1. Gnocchi stuffed with tomatoes - fairly ordinary though it was touted as the day's
popular dish. Soggy to a certain extent, overcooked, sticky and totally starchy.
2. Spanish beans with chorizo was saltish, intense and flavourful, authentic spanish
dish.
3. Pear salad with sweet pork - this is really weird combo - the super sweet pear
slices and the super sweet pork makes this a confuseddush, it cant decide whether it
shld be a starter salad or a desert. Jyst sweet. Single dimension. Flat. A little
bit of vinegar or yuzu will add so much to zest this one dimension sweet salad.
4. Poached eggs touted as the house specialty was well cooked but bland and tasteless like boiled eggs in water. Anybody could do it.
5. And lousy coffee.

Conclusion :
Grossly overrated. Tries too hard to be creative but falls flat on its face. Perhaps
too many sympathetic neighbours giving over nice reviews. Next time i am passing
through, i will just bypass the happy wife and drive on to eat at Nicolas. Hearty
italian fare with so much genuine flavours.

“Tasty, fresh, homemade & good value.”
Reviewed 27 September 2013

We have lunch here every few weeks, its a casual, relaxed, friendly, cafe style eatery that prepares all the menu items in-house. The cakes and savoury tarts are light and tasty, good salads, gluten free choices, dressings and vegetarian options.Homemade pan fried gnocchi with baby spinach is a favourite as is the bruschetta with field mushrooms, goats cheese, tomato, onion relish and rocket. Coffee is good, staff are pleasant, food is well priced.( In a town were most food is over priced and very average.) We would like to see the menu items change a little, perhaps a bit more variety, we are however very happy with the happy wife.
