“Basic, but Delivers Against its Promise”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

Let’s be honest – this is not the Ritz! We experienced a less than enthusiastic welcome on arrival where we stood and waited in reception unacknowledged for several minutes as a computer took preference. Neither were we engaged in relation to the attractions in the area – something we would have appreciated. We then made our way to a one-bedroom cabin that was clean and spacious with stove top, microwave, large fridge/freezer, patio table & chairs and small round table & chairs indoors.

The good:
• Nearby laundry for guests
• Barbecue area
• Within walking distance of the village with its information centre, shops, eateries and pubs with live music
• Coles & IGA
• Conveniently located for tour pick-up
• Quiet and secure

Room for improvement:
• No salt & pepper set, microwave crockery, beer glasses, whisk or washing up brush
• No oven
• The gas barbeque was barely functional and was in dire need of a good clean and service of the burners
• Wi-Fi only at reception
• No electricity point convenient to working with a computer on the interior table in our unit

We only discovered after we had booked a tour at the information centre that we could have done so cheaper at the resort (AUD 81 instead of AUD 90), but can recommend the Cheers tour option. We enjoyed the itinerary and company. There is a bicycle shop just up the road with reasonable hire fees, but is closed on Sundays. Since we missed this sign on their door until too late, we walked the trail and enjoyed it immensely. It is easily accessible from the park and we took the route through the heavily forested area to the river and then returned via the main road through town, stopping only for necessary sustenance at Settlers pub, before weaving our way back to the park. It was an easy 4 or 5km stroll.

The check-out was efficient and friendly. Overall this is an unpretentious, but very comfortable and convenient lodging with a lot to recommend it – as long as you are comfortable with basic.

This is a pretty place with pleasant staff, good amenities, discount for TopTourist members and of course in Margaret River itself. What a pity their Golden Chain website ignores the caravan park section of the complex.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are presently working on updating our website but our accommodation is under the Golden Chain banner and our caravan park section is under the banner of Top Tourist. It can be a little confusing.

We stayed the last Friday and Saturday nights. We had a deluxe cabin which was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The pillow were hard though.
It was a drive to town where the restaurants are a-plenty.
The staff were quite friendly and efficient.
There is a security gate which requires scanning to be opened. This stops hoons from driving through.
I recommend staying here.

We stayed here for four nights during school holidays in a 2 bedroom family cottage. The cottage was fine, clean and quite comfortable except for an ant problem in the bathroom. We had a renovated cottage but it was still pretty basic.

Also if you have young children there isn't many grassed areas for kicking a ball etc and the playground is quite old and simple.

I had read other peoples reviews describing the proximity to town as great, however it is a good 20 minute walk, half hour with children so don't expect a quick 5 minutes to town to grab bread/milk etc.

This park is more suited to people that just want a place to sleep and go out all day exploring the region. It is well kept and quite neat but very much just a place to stay. I wouldn't recommend it for families wanting the "caravan park" experience.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We do have plans for new playgrounds to be installed with new playground equipment. Although there are not large grassy areas to kick a ball around there is a large oval behind the park that is ideal. The distance from the office to the Margaret River Hotel in the centre of town is exactly 1km so on average takes between 10 to 15 minutes easy walk. We do sell milk in the office for those not wanting to make the walk to town. Blue Ginger opposite the park also sells milk and bread & we now have the Thai Restaurant across the road for an evening meal. We do hope you will visit us again.

We stayed here for a weekend on an ensuite camping site. It was a good size site with lots of shade. We received a warm friendly welcome from Sandra on arrival. The kids had a great time on the jumping pillow and our dog was welcome too. Will stay here again for sure

We are pleased you had an enjoyable stay with us. Dogs are thought of as part of the family by a lot of people and as such we like to welcome the whole family. The jumping pillow has become a favourite with all the children. We look forward to seeing you back soon.
