Owner description: Mammoth is an impressive, gothic-like cave that could easily be described as the perfect home for a caveman. Tours are self-guided with an audio headset and begin via an elevated boardwalk through towering Karri forest. As you journey through the spectacular formations lookout for the carefully lit animal bones and fossils and listen to the stories about extinct animals. Wildflowers are abundant around the precinct from September to November. Located 22km south of Margaret River.

“Interesting cave”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

We had an interesting time exploring the cave. Natural light filters in from its entrances. Fossil remains found here takes one back through time. Easier access than Lake Caves. The walk along the trail is also nice.

“Amazing Mammoth Caves”

This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to the Margaret River. The caves are spectacular and certainly a unique experience. Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates one of natures miracles.

“Amazing”
Reviewed 11 May 2014

Visiting the Mammoth cave was amazing. Seeing the naturally created formations was awesome. This cave is the easiest of the nearby caves, there is about 170 steps. Good cave to visit if you are not that mobile.

It can be quite cool in the caves, down to about 12-15°C. There are lights in the cave, so I was able to take great photos without the flash, which looked much better than with.

Definitely a must see.

“Huge cave hidden in a forest”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

Large cave where many skeletal remains have been found. There are many caves in the area to the point that there is a Caves road paralleling the highway. The caves are all different and it is worthwhile buying a pass to see three caves-Mammoth, Jewel, and Lake as well as the Lighthouse.
There is an audio tour that comes with entry. Although effective, we really enjoyed the guided tours at the other caves. Take the longer route around the forest after exiting the cave. You can see the rare black cockatoos as they squawk at each other.

“Worth a look.”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

Unlike other caves in the area this one is self guided and more accessible, so you can take your time if steps are a problem and front up at anytime during the day.
