Just spent two days in the magnificent Margaret river which was made even better by this great hotel. Every part of our stay was perfection with the staff being amazing. This is definitely an adults only retreat ... Leave your kids at home.

Room Tip: The champagne suite is amazing

We were booked here by Accor Vacation Club and they knew we had small children, also that we wanted to be near Perth during our stay over west. We were told this was what they had over West in club properties, since found out different of course!
This place I think is more for older couples with no children as they are not received well and we were made feel very uncomfortable at breakfast each day. As it is an old manor, it is not built for noisy young children, as much as the staff were not happy, neither were we as we had to walk on tender hooks constantly.
We were told on arriving that this was not the place for us, so why were we booked here, wasted good points on this place I believe!

Room Tip: All rooms seem the same, although upstairs offer private balcony that is not available downstairs.

Dear Zoldar26,
Thank you for taking the time to post your review after your stay back in January 2013. It is very disappointing to read that you did not feel that your family was welcome at The Manor. I would very much like to discuss this matter with you further and can be contacted on 07 5595 3200. My name is Sharon. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

We just spent 2 nights at this beautiful property and were very impressed. The original building is an old manor built in the early 20th century, and there is an added building in back that houses 2 floors, with 4 King Suites on each floor. We opted for these suites, and were happy we did! One was on the second floor and looked out over the gardens, with the other on the ground floor that had its own private courtyard. Otherwise the rooms were identical.

The furnishings in this place are of very good quality, as well as the upholstery and drapes. Linens were excellent and the king bed was quite enjoyable to sleep on. The high ceilings give a sense of real spaciousness, and the ample sunlight made the room warm and inviting. TVs are newer with good reception. There is a small fridge and some cutlery and crockery, plus the usual tea and coffee amenities (TIP: you can get more tea and coffee from the conservatory). The bathroom was incredibly spacious with a deep soaker tub, huge glass enclosed shower and dual pedestal sinks. Everything was in excellent condition.

There is a Nespresso machine and various teas in the conservatory, and you are welcome to use the 2 sitting rooms adjacent to relax and read. Wifi is free, but only seems to work in the common areas (I would recommend they consider getting some repeaters to boost the rooms), and was a bit slow and erratic.

The included breakfast was delightful - various poached and fresh fruits, plus choice of 3 yogurts (plain, strawberry and mango with passionfruit), toast and fresh jams, as well as cereals and your choice of one hot main were available. I had the farmer's breakfast, but others really enjoyed the pancakes and the amazing souffle of egg and cream that came with a small wedge of brie.

Note that there is otherwise no lunch or dinner service here, but they do a Devonshire tea that you can book for (we did not get the chance as we were out exploring). However, there are several good restaurants a 5 minute drive away.

The grounds are amazing and peaceful, and there is a small pool for swimming, as well as a tennis court.

This was one of the most luxurious, comfortable and charming places I have enjoyed staying at, and would not hesitate to recommend it. Staff were very kind and easy to approach, and there is a free laundry washer and dryer for guests as a perk!

Room Tip: If you want a view over the gardens, ask for the King Suites upstairs (Grange was our room - they us...

A big thank you to Jenny and her staff. Jenny you made a problem seem nothing as you accommodated us in every way from a cancelled original booking to slotting our stay around my partners working shift. We enjoyed our stay immensely and were blown away by this beautiful old manor. Our room was comfy and just what we needed to escape the madness of the city. The frogs serenaded us to sleep both nights, excellent. Breakfast in the conservatory was delightful over looking the magnificent gardens.Nothing is too much bother as customer service should be, a dying art captured well. Thanks to all, and a mention to Max who was wonderful in our departure. PS I took a snip of the gorgeous fuchsia out front to grow in my garden to have a bit of Balildene Manor... Thanks everyone.

Without any doubt the highlight of our 2-week stay in the Margaret River region was a wonderful 5-night stay at this wonderfully characteristic Hotel. From our charming and informative greeting upon arrival to the presentation of a package of fresh scones, jam and butter on our farewell, the standard of hospitality, breakfast cuisine and all-round service by the Management Team and Staff far exceeded our expectations and we were left as 'delighted' visitors. Moreover, the setting of the hotel and its surrounding gardens were just visually stunning. A real highlight was being served afternoon Cream Tea whilst sat under a genuine English Oak Tree - and as visitors from the UK finding it hard to believe that we were only 2 weeks away from being sat at home on Xmas Eve! We both love the Margaret River region - and now we have found the perfect base. We can thoroughly recommend Basildene Manor to anyone wanting to have a really memorable visit to this fabulous region - we will certainly be coming back!

Room Tip: Suites on the West Side enjoy a magnificent view of the stunning gardens
