“An excellent example that others could learn from!”
Reviewed 14 June 2013

This motel certainly lived up to the praises of the trip advisor reviews that I had read before booking a single night for our road trip of the area. It is a small simple complex that has a "soul". There are touches of love and care apparent from the first office greeting after walking through the breezeway of luxuriant green plants. The rooms are simple but met all needs adequately and when the blinds behind the "kitchen bench" were opened in the morning a lovely home garden was revealed . Our unit had a little outdoor table and chairs and although it was chilly we ate breakfast there. We purchased the breakfast pack for an unbelievably small cost of $6.00 each. The kitchen cupboard was well stocked with utensils including kettle and toaster and we were able to have a room picnic for dinner with some Margaret River wine cheeses etc.

This small motel provides an excellent example of what overnight or holiday travellers require without all the razzamatazz of 5 star luxury hotels. We would have happily enjoyed using this motel as a base for spending several days in the area had time allowed.

We appreciate that you enjoyed our "little touches", simple things that make it a home away from home. Our Continental Breakfast as you said is great value and you get to enjoy it on your paito watching the ring-necked parrots have their breakfast in the garden.

I booked Edge of the Forest as it was one of the more budget options available and could not have been more impressed with the stay we've had.
The rooms are beautifully appointed, with all of your needs carefully thought of. Denise was absolutely charming, her enthusiasm and kindness made the stay more memorable and personal.
Great location, beautifully refurbished bathrooms, only wish I'd come in the summer months to be able to enjoy the gorgeous garden and BBQ.
Highly recommend!

We stayed at this motel in the school holidays for four nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our hosts wrote the book of service, even picking us up in town with our groceries! It is located a short walk from the township itself and we enjoyed all the walks in the area, including a ten-mile one. We had the family room, which our hosts gave to us ( a couple) because they thought we would enjoy the extra space for our stay..very considerate. The room was excellent: clean and well appointed. Excellent value for money. We would definitely stay there again when next we visit this wonderful part of Australia.

It was great to see you two out there enjoying our beautiful Region. Like you we enjoy the walks in and around the property and always walk when heading into town for lunch or dinner, however I don't fancy doing it with bags full of shopping so It was our pleasure to pick you up from town We now have the canvas prints of local scenery which we spoke of and we think they look great and show off Margaret River beautiful vineyards, beaches & forests.

Get up early & take a walk in the forest, with the trail starting right behind the motel. There is a loop around the Margaret River. A bit more than a motel with comfortable rooms, BBQ's & nice patios. It's just a short walk into Margaret River if you don't want to cook at the motel.Previous reviewers have noted all the cooking & entertainment facilities.

We really appreciate your kind words. When we were looking to buy a property, the word "motel" really put us off, conjuring a not too pleasant atmosphere to live and work in,but the first time we saw this place,we fell in love and made an offer immediately. We're glad other people see the charm of the location and lay-out,and no-one could dispute that we really are on "the edge of the forest"!We've also really enjoyed meeting so many pleasant and interesting guests from all over the world.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The facilities were good, including a BBQ and picnic area in the grounds. There is however no restaurant. We chose to stay here as we had a hire car. As the name suggests, the hotel is on the edge of town. A bit far to walk in to the town centre.

The facilities are clean and well maintained, the owners very personable and keen to make our stay pleasant. We would recommend this hotel and would stay there again if in the area.

Thank you for your comments and recommending us. We would love to have you stay again, on your next visit to Margaret River.
The location just on the edge of town is perfect for guests who don't wish to be right in the centre of town. The 10 minute walk to town is not for everyone, however a vast majority of our guest quite like walking their dinner off.

Beautiful location in Margaret River, very well appointed room for the price. The owners make you feel really at home and pampered. The outside garden area is really lovely and each room has it's own table and chairs overlooking the outside garden. The rooms are very clean and as I said earlier well appointed with microwave, fridge and DVD player. You have access to hundreds of DVD's at no cost. The room also has crockery and a small amount of cutlery so you can organise your breakfast, lunch and dinner. The garden is equipped with a gas BBQ. The motel is situated in a great location and is very handy to all local attractions, it is only a short stroll to the township. Out the back of the motel is access to a nice track along the river which is good for a walk, run or mountain bike. The only downside the bathroom could do with a makeover and the walls are a little bit thin but not to bad.

Many thanks for your wonderful comments, they are appreciated. We are glad thay you got to see all the beautiful attractions that the Margaret River Region has to offer. With respect to the bathrooms & walls, we are closing in May to replace the bathrooms, floor coverings and will be gyprocking 1 wall in each room which should help with noise reduction.

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel really welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Edge of the Forest. The garden is a delight - the only downside for us was not being in one of the rooms overlooking it, but we shall rectify this next time we stay! We did think our room (2) would be a little noisy as it's at the side and not far from the busy main road, but actually during the evening there's very little traffic and it's very quiet at night.

Our room was beautifully decorated and well appointed - though a small sink to wash up in would have improved it, and there was enough room for one. Having fresh milk rather than the ubiquitous plastic pots was a bonus. The bed was very comfy but the bathroom felt a little 'institutional' and the towels were a bit on the small side (a pet hate of mine!). Personally speaking, a few toiletries rather than just soap in the bathroom would be an improvement.

Top marks for having an enormous selection of DVDs to borrow - and for free - why can't more places do this?

Would we go back? Absolutely!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the garden.

Thank you for your kind words. We are closing for three weeks in May to complete renovations that include completely new bathrooms that we hope will be a lot nicer than the ones we inherited!Your suggestion of having toiletries is currently under investigation to try to find the right ones.
We have looked at trying to incorporate a sink into the rooms but it may not be practical at this stage due to the nature of the building structure. We also have taken on board your comments about the garden and we hope to improve the garden area outside the room you stayed in.
We're glad you had a great time in Margaret River and hope you can visit us another time!
