“Relaxing, peaceful, beautiful house and gardens. Excellent!”
Reviewed 5 May 2010

This is a lovely place to stay. It's just outside Palmerston North, but handy to the University, and has beautiful gardens and farmland around it, as well as a reserve. I went to PN to do some work, but wished I could have spent more time enjoying the pleasant environment at the B&B. The house is also lovely, the rooms very comfortable and well equipped and the whole experience is very relaxing and tranquil. The hosts are very friendly and helpful (when we had a medical emergency they were a godsend). I would certainly recommend the place and stay there again if I go back to Palmerston North.

Kristin and Richard.

From the moment you turn up the driveway through the lovely gardens past the ornaments and sculptures and the wee pond you know that you are going to love your stay here. Once you arrive at the front door you are greeted by really friendly charming hosts and given a lovely relaxed welcome with tea, coffee or a cold drink and immediately feel comfortable. The house is very large and beautifully appointed with high quality furnishings and decorations, but not sterile, rather warm and homely. We stayed in a beautiful large upstairs room with our private bathroom opposite. You are provided with lovely robes for the 2 steps you need to make from room to bathroom. Everything about the place is highest quality, the towels, the linen and all the fittings and tasteful decor. The view from the huge windows is magnificent overlooking the gardens and hills and fields surrounding the property. You feel like you are miles out in the countryside although you are actually only a few minutes from Palmerston North.
Ingrid and Aaron are very good hosts, getting the balance of being friendly and caring without being intrusive, just right. Now getting to the breakfast, this was a real treat, fresh fruit from the garden, lovely meusli and yoghurt and home made jam. A choice of cooked options followed which were cooked to order and beautifully done. We really did not want to leave and have decided to make an excuse to go again for longer. We could not recommend this highly enough and it is a shame that many people will only pass through for a night, we agree with the previous reviewer it should be a destination in itself.

Arron and Ingrid have been in the B&B business for only a year, and so don't have any TA comments yet. We were referred to them by another B&B in the area which was fully booked. We stayed at A Country Affair for one night while passing through the area, but their home could easily be a destination in itself. It is immaculately clean, very comfortable. Classy.... under floor heating in the bathroom, fine quality bedding, high gloss tea cups, artistic tasteful decorations, relaxing valley views. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room. They offer wi fi access for your personal laptop. Ingrid cooked huge, quality breakfasts... bacon, eggs, fruit from the garden, yogurt, muesli, juice, coffee, tea, toast, etc. Ingrid and Arron worked well together to be sure their guests were comfortable.

The 4 acre grounds are like a botanic garden made for royalty. They have many beautiful flowers, neat fruit and vegetable gardens, tastefully placed statues, and bushes of different colors and textures. Ingrid and Arron created various outdoor "rooms" on different levels, bordered by rock walls which Arron installed himself... a gazebo, pond, rose garden, orchards, picnic tables, fireplace, etc.

Arron and Ingrid are friendly, generous, and gracious hosts, treating us more as special family than as paying customers.
