“Lovely setting”
Reviewed 13 May 2014

I visited in late summer with my partner for a picnic lunch. We took along our food and a blanket and set up near the fountain in the rose garden. It was just lovely, with only three other people in sight during the two hours we spent there. The roses were gorgeous and each has a sign telling you what type it is. There are plenty of sparrows and other small birds flitting about, making it an idyllic setting for a relaxing lunch. Bins are located at all exits for easy disposal of any rubbish. Parking is also free so you're able to stay for as long as you want without feeling the pressure of the meter ticking down.

“A garden that appeals to all!”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

This little place holds attraction for most visitors. There is huge rose garden where trials take place. The aviary houses some spectacular birds. The are lots of rare plants and trees. For the children, there is a railway that they and their parents can ride and see more of the park. The Manawatu river is close by, a sight when in flood, but also at normal times.

“Best kept secret ”
Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

This is an amazing place. It has something for everyone. My favourite place is the rose gardens. I also enjoy listening to jazz music while relaxing on the lawns . The other time to visit is when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. These gardens definitely have something for everyone of all ages and all seasons

“A delightful afternoon out for all ages to enjoy together.”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

The Esplanade Gardens are a joy to wander around, or else you can just drive slowly through. In Spring the bulbs & Cherry Blossom make a beautiful display, then its the turn of the Rhodos & Azaleas. The large rose gardens & flowering beds in Summer are lovely followed by the Autumn foliage to admire. The paddling pool for little ones is always popular in Summer with large aviaries nearby, as well as a Hot house with begonias & interesting plants. Do buy a ticket (minimum price) at the little railway station & enjoy a train ride through the bush down to a great playground area returning back around through the trees, There is a large pond with ducks to entertain the little ones with an Information Centre nearby. Enjoy the nice cafe for lunch or a cup of coffee/tea & a cake after your leisurely stroll - it will finish off a lovely few hours at the Esplanade Gardens,

“Beautiful walks”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Hard to beat for a gentle walk or ride through the park. If the weathers good take a picnic! A park for the kids, an aviary so you can look at the birds and a miniature railway too. The rose garden is spectacular when in bloom.Take a book or just sit and watch the world go by. There is a cafe too...
