We have stayed here several times and it is or accommodation of choice when staying in Palmy.

We have seen it go from a 4 star hotel to the 3star or maybe a + that it is now. It has all the amenities of the bigger, brighter hotels but with a price tag a fraction of theirs. A true budget option with large rooms and comfortable beds, right in the centre of Palmy. Park up your vehicle and use your feet. Well worth the stay.

It is good to see there is a major renovation going on to bring it back to its former glory and look forward to many more stays in the future.

Arriving late in Palmie as the locals call it, we decided to grab the nearest hotel motel for a quick night's sleep. We chose Kingsgate because it was close and the waitress at the restaurant said it was reasonable. If this place is considered reasonable i'd hate to see a real low class place. Staying in the detached motel style rooms we were treated to stained curtains, stained carpets, bed spreads out of the 1950s, and for some odd reason the empty minibar - which we had paid a $50 deposit for (?) had had its door shelves removed. On top of the bed cover was the previous guests very funny but extremely poor guest review. The staff hadn't even collected it from the room which leads me to the conclusion that they didn't even bother to clean the room before we booked in. We listened to the roar of traffic along the main road all night long and sucked in the dusty aroma. For this honour we paid $135!!!

Room Tip: Apparently the main hotel is being renovated - wait for that.

WE stayed in one of the detached suites for one night. Considering the main tower block is being renovated it was not excessably noisy.
Suites are very dated and not very sound proof but reasonably clean.
Main bed ideal for romancing couple as the hollow in the middle always bought us together.
For the price good enough for a flying visit.

I booked this hotel as it was in a great location and is part of the Millennium hotel chain. I won't go to another Millennium hotel if they are all like this.

The room was dated and tired. The bed was awful. It was probably originally in the honeymoon suite. The middle was so soft and had no support which gave me a sore back.

There is no air conditioning and the TV was about 20 years old. You are watching wide screen content on a 4:3 screen with poor picture quality. No response to my enquiry for a better TV.

The most disgusting issue was finding hairs(not mine) in the bathroom.

We stayed up on the top floor - given an upgrade actually .. for no extra cost. Pleasant room with nice view. Staff friendly and helpful. We were at a conference and the Palmerston North Conference Centre was not too far away by foot

Room Tip: Try for the top floor looking out to the ranges to the east - great view.

Can you imagine an hotel where the spa is out because of maintenance but don't expect apologize and discounts... Can you imagine an hotel where the internet is so expensive and slow ? Can you imagine an hotel where the staff is not friendly and told you to leave ? Can you imagine an hotel where the check out time is 10.00 am and where nobody told you you will be charged 10$ more because you tried to sleep a little bit more on Sunday morning... You ll find it ! An advise : go away !
