“STUNNING VIEWS AND HOSPITALITY”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

We stayed for 2 nights. After landing in Auckland a fairly easy drive down to Thames. Arrived late but no problem- warm welcome, cup of tea and comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious. Get Pauline's recipe for her scones.

Researching a B&B on the internet does not always prepare you for what this accomodation is really like. I must admit I am used to B&B's where you are shown your room and left to your own devices. I was expecting to have a nice room with nice views on top a hill some where. Thats not how Pauline and Dennis are, we were greeted with a warm welcome, and made comfortable with a cup of tea and some cake. Our room had great views of Thames, the bay, and mountains in the distance. Though high up we were very close to town. The atsmophere is so inviting that if we had not been on a mission to see some of the area i'm sure we would have settled down with a book and spent the day reading. We felf pretty special. Pauline made us feel like family, and made sure we had the "good oil" on the local area. Thakyou Pauline and Dennis for a great 2 days.

We were looking for a bolthole, a place to get away from it all that wasn't too far from Auckland and we certainly found it at Chartre Manor. Pauline and Dennis are marvellous, welcoming hosts - we felt right at home pretty much straight away. The view from the deck is astonishing - you can see right along the Firth of Thames and on to Rangitoto. The changing weather is fascinating to watch - early morning fog rises off the Hauraki plain, showers sweep across the Hunua ranges, the sun sets behind the hills south of Auckland. Our room was great - lovely big comfortable bed, nice big bathroom, all really nicely decorated. The guests' lounge looks out at the view, and is comfortable and cosy. Breakfast was excellent, whether you chose the continental or the cooked option - and we found ourselves chatting with Dennis and Pauline long after the meal was over, putting the world to rights. This is an ideal place to explore the Coromandel peninsula - nowhere is much more than an hour's drive away, and many places are much closer. We wanted to explore the new Hauraki Rail Trail, and we had a great day doing that. Pauline and Dennis were also able to point us to some good restaurants in Thames for an evening meal. Their local knowledge is really helpful, too. In short, this was the perfect break that we were looking for, we feel we've made some new friends, and we'll certainly be back.

We stayed in Thames because we had 2 days left of a 3 week tour of New Zealand's North Island and we didn't want to stay in Auckland CBD, Thames being only 1 hr 20 mins from the Auckland Airport.

Our criteria were: quiet, views, 2 sleeping spaces, a kitchen, no traffic noise, no noisy neighbours, no youth on steroids!

The places we chose meeting this criteria were full, the owners of those places all recommended Chartre.

So we drove up the winding driveway to the Manor........on the top of a hill, passing fields with lama, sheep and chickens. Pauline and Dennis were able to offer us the Cottage...what a find! Very well appointed, attention to detail, perfect hosts giving us handy tourist hints, where to buy fish, bringing fresh eggs for breakfast and Pauline's Scones at the same time leaving us to enjoy and explore the Chartre delights on our own.

We wholeheartedly recommend Charte Manor to anyone looking for the same type of accomodation. Not only is the accomodation excellent, the surrounding area including the Coramandel, the gold mining town of Thames and the waters of the Firth of Thames all offer fun and enjoyment for all.

Thank you Pauline and Dennis...our stay was too short! Ron and Joy Western Australia

On our way back from some mountain-biking in the Coromandel we basically stumbled upon this place on our way through Thames. A special place - unique views of the area, great house and rooms, genuine welcoming hosts who made our short stay both relaxing and enjoyable. Recommend it without hesitation.

We stayed with Pauline and Dennis in February, 2012, for two nights on a whirlwind trip to New Zealand. We couldn't have felt more welcomed or treated better anywhere. The food was first rate with plenty of variety. Rooms are immaculate, views wonderful, town nearby and very interesting. A wonderful place to stay if you want to explore the Coromandal Peninsula or just stay around the local area. Pauline and Dennis gave us great advice on places to eat and things to do and places to go. We couldn't fault anything about our stay.

Thank you Pauline and Dennis for a wonderful and memorable visit to Thames.

Managed to get my husband off the phone and away for a no kids weekend. We were able to stay in the cottage which suited us perfectly as it was our 25th wedding anniversary.

I could not have picked a better place to stay - friendly, comfortable, well appointed and beautifully set out. The place was very modern and super clean!!

We had a great time mountain biking around Thames, hiking up the Billy Goat Track, visiting the Thames market.

We would not hesitate to come back. Excellent experience.
