I had been to Thames and the Coromandel area many times, but staying here was the best choice. While the cute town of Thames is only a 5 minute drive down the hill, this peaceful elevated location looks both to the expansive firth of Thames and its many bays out the front, as well as the forest of the coromandel range and sheep paddocks and llamas out the back. Comfortable veranda seating outside to take in the views both front and back. The main house has a lovely outdoor pool too. We watched a beautiful pheasant fly by, landing to look for food, right in front of us. We stayed in the separate cottage with our own kitchen and lounge, and a lovely wood burner to keep us warm and cozy on a chilly night. The whole place was VERY clean, and well appointed. Huge walk in closet and bathroom. Fabulous bed and sheets, even an electric blanket. Pauline and Dennis are such a lovely pair, giving us quiet time to relax yet giving us local tips at breakfast. Breakfast was amazing - see picture attached. I would stay no where else in Thames. This made my vacation get started right - a true, relaxing holiday.

This was an excellent stay with great hospitality and facilities. The service was very good and I especially liked the cooked meals. The house was very clean and homely and had an amazing view. I would certainly recommend it

Chartre Manor was the best place we stayed in while visiting New Zealand. We could not have imagined better care and service from Dennis and Pauline, who treated like family from the minute we walked in their door! The view was fantastic - you have to catch the sunset from there - and the place itself is gorgeous. Our room was immaculately decorated and had a gorgeous view of the river meeting the ocean.

The breakfast was so delicious and hearty we weren't hungry for the entire day and just the smell of Pauline's baked goods will make any traveler smile.

We can't wait to go back to New Zealand just to visit Chartre Manor again.

Chartre Manor, Pauline and Dennis.

We really enjoyed our stay here, it was a great place to explore all the Coromandel Peninsular. We wished we had more time here, but with the two nights we made sure we travelled around and made the most of the attractions from this wonderful Bed and Breakfast base. The mussell kitchen had mouth watering lunch specials, then a trip up to the hot water pools on the beach was a very funny experience. Adults and kids alike digging holes for hot water while the tide splashed over us.

The Hosts were fantastic, great attention to detail, very friendly and welcoming with a sense of humour. Their local knowledge and hints for touring, places to eat etc. made our holiday very special. Both days our breakfast were presented beautifully, even the vegemite was in its own little dish. We were offered scrumptious cake, and other extras, to take with us on our drive.

We enjoyed the most amazing views overlooking the bay and town, and watched the sun going down with a lovely glass of wine and good company. Our own lounge to relax was available if we wished. Should be a NZ must do.

Our long weekend stay with the charismatic Pauline and Dennis was absolutely stunning!!! Just loved the cottage accommodation with its views and all day sun, and we even had the fire lit for us one chilly night on our return from a days exploring the peninsular. Wonderful breakfast served and so happy to cater to one of us who is gluten free so that was a real plus!! We were also treated to Pauline's plum cake on our arrival so that was a nice personal touch. Both Pauline and Dennis have a wealth of knowledge of the area which would be especially amazing for overseas guests. Great Saturday market in Thames too

Pauline's warm welcome and a terrific cooked breakfast made this a great place to start our ride of the Hauraki Rail Trail. We drove to Waikino to start the ride but next time we will get Pauline to drop us at the start and leave the car in Thames.

Lovely accommodation with a superb view out over the Firth of Thames from a hill-top position. Pauline was a most friendly and helpful hostess who went out of her way to ensure that we made the best of our time on the Coromandel peninsula. We remember her excellent breakfasts especially for the fruit salads and home-made yoghourts, and the enjoyable chats that we had together.
