“Best little pub in Thames”
Reviewed 13 June 2014

Have not stayed here but have eaten and drunk there and found it very pleasant, comfortable with nice helpful friendly staff and customers. It is easy to find about 2/3rds down the main street and on a Monday night is probably only one of a view places open on the whole street. They have good priced food and drinks are average priced but when there is little else to choose from then this is definitely it. They have a nice sized down to earth dining room with a varied menu ranging from tapas to fish or steak dishes and decent helpings.

Perfect accommodation for those holidaying in NZ on a shoestring budget. Good sized rooms, clean and very helpful staff. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which has a good varied menu that is not overpriced, but if you like a wine with your meal, be prepared to pay top dollar. One tip, do not order the shared seafood platter and expect to be able to eat it all when you are only a couple - the half platter would be more than ample.

My girlfriend and I stayed here spontaneously since she was sick and we didn't want to drive up to Coromandel town at night and miss the scenery. All they had left were a double room without ensuite or a twin without ensuite or a dorm room with bunkbeds with an ensuite. So we chose the double, we are young and don't care that much about sharing bathrooms. The bed and staff were fine and friendly but this was a hotel with an adjacent gaming lounge which featured a live band. My girlfriend was sick so we tried going yo bed early...to no avail. The music was so loud you could hear it around the whole block. Luckily it didn't vibrate too much in our room. This wasn't the worst part. The worst part were the drunk locals fighting and arguing on the street outside our window. And to make it worse, they lingered around my rental car on which I bought no extra insurance. I don't know what time we actually fell asleep but that was one of the worst sleeps I've had in New Zealand. Other than that, very friendly staff and renovated hotel.

Good basic hotel, no frills but clean rooms, good choice of room sizes for a comfortable night. I've stayed here every year for the past 4 years and it has improved every year. If you want cheap it has bunk bed rooms with shared facilities or private double/twin en suite rooms.
For New Zealand hotels away from big towns it meets your needs, good area at the bottom of the Coromendel Peninsula. Old gold mining town which used to be the biggest town in NZ (in the late1800's).
Good restaurant in building, very good cafe next door for breakfast. New owner was very helpful, cancelled a room at last minute but no problems. Tea and coffee making facilities on first floor.

Room Tip: Room 11 (twin en suite) is noisy on Friday nights as it is above the bar with live music.

We have stayed at the Junction for the last three years while visiting the Paeroa Battle of the Streets motorcycle racing. Our little group has been made to feel welcome every time we've stayed and while the rooms are not large, not pokey either. The beds are comfortable and linen always clean. Service from the Public bar staff is second to none and the establishment clean. This is a young team that know what hospitality is about. the GDB restaurant is superb, great food, really good coffee and the prices are NOT over the top.
This hotel is a credit to everyone working there.

Room Tip: the rooms over the bar can be a little noisy, that's even numbers from about 8 on. nothing that...

Stayed with 2 other couples on a great Grab One deal. Small but adequate rooms. The shower was a bit hot/cold, not much control over this as the person showering! Very clean, and friendly owners and staff in bars and restaurants, as are the locals. We stayed on a very steamy weekend in February and found the rooms very stuffy and would have loved a fan!Great meal in the restaurant and joined the locals for drinks and hilarity in the main bar after our meal. Had a great night. We knew that our rooms were above the bar so it was very noisy with people in the street after we went to bed. The 2 man band had finished but the hijinx hadn't, but we nodded off anyway. A bit the same the next night, no band but noisy crowd after local boxing match. Didnt really bother us but if you are after a quiet night dont think you would get it here! Good base to explore the Kaurenga Valley, great market Saturday morning in an underated town. Thanks Thames and The Junction!

Enjoyed a great 2 night stay. Arrived Fri early evening & were welcomed by 1 of the onsite hosts.
We had a double room with ensuite - small but good shower pressure. Tea/coffee making facilities were just along from our room & full kitchen downstairs.
Had a great time in the downstairs bar , singalong with a couple of Irish chaps who were the evenings entertainment.
Nothing was too much trouble to sort out for our hosts, including the wifi, giving locations when requested & also recommendations for sights to see.
Loved the Saturday market that was right outside the door at 10am.
Looking forward to going back another weekend to enjoy more of this area.
