“One of the best experiences ever, was the trip of a lifetime”
Reviewed 2 February 2014 via mobile

Felt a bit daunting on arrival , the drive up to the retreat had us all guessing what we had booked. We were met by scott at the entrance and our fears evaporated. By the time we pulled up at the accommodation the veiw took our breath away. Karyn welcomed us as if we were long lost friends and the stay increased with pleasure at every level as the days rolled on. The time came for us to move on to our next destination and we were sad to go but have made a promise to revist karyn , Scott and the family. 10 out of 10 with no reservations.

Visited with my mum and fiance, really enjoyed our stay. The room was comfortable and clean, the host family was amazingly hospitable (and accommodating and understanding with our puppy) the kids were great and the views amazing. The best part about this place is defiantly the hosts, karyn and Scott though.
We went on their farm tour and it rained pretty heavy half way through, Scott was with us and catered to all the guest (including the 4 legged one!) Whilst karyn came to rescue the others less capable of walking and made us all a cup of tea whilst drying our clothes out.

I will certainly be back there without the mother to stay with these guys again (and steal their bulldog).

Oh and the cooked breakfast, homemade sausages and bacon are delicious, hopefully Scott can give me a crash course in butchering if I time the next visit well (!)

Good work guys, best home stay I've visited
5*

We stayed at Nightingale Falls Homestay for 8 awesome nights. Scott and Karyn were the perfect hosts allowing us to do as much or as little as we wanted to. We had a lovely time on our Farm Tour with Scott and his young helper. Their children and our two had a wonderful time playing "Spotlight" in the evenings, going to "The Black Hole " for a swim and just hanging out together. We all had a lot of laughs playing KINECT several evenings ( peels of laughter ringing through the lounge as each person tried to do the actions required to score points). Karyns homemade Pizza's were a real treat one evening- served to us by Scott in our cottage, and thoroughly enjoyed by us all ( I had to ask for the pizza sauce recipe as it was so yummy!!). For us to be up on the edge of the bush with the Tui's feasting on the Flax flowers and to hear Moreporks calling one another every night was very special. A wonderful relaxing place we would love to return to.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Twinkingham Cottage. This cottage has cooking facilities and a lovely dining table...

We were doing the Hauraki Cycling Rail Trail & stopped overnight at the Nightingale Falls Retreat. Driving up their road, our thoughts were, where are we going. As the road was quite winding but very picturesque. What a wonderful surprise at getting to our destination. We were met by Scott & some of the farm animals at the bottom of their driveway. Scott took us & our luggage up to the accomodation in their four wheel drive vehicle. Karyn was their to greet us when we arrived up at their home & were welcomed so warmly. The cottage was a home away from home. A lovely warm fire greeted us when we stepped inside to a very cosy cottage. Karyn cooked us a superb three course meal in the evening which was absolutely sumptious. In the morning a cooked breakfast was delivered to us as well. Scott & Karyn are such wonderful hosts. So kind, caring & lovely people. Making sure we were happy & were having a enjoyable stay. We couldn't of asked for anything better of where to stay. A real treat.

This was so much more than my family expected. We felt as if we had been friends with the Martin family forever. This was the most refreshing, serene, country, get away that anyone could imagine. We originally booked one night and expanded to two nights before we arrived, do to excitement. After two nights stay we asked if we could stay for a third night because we did not want to go. I would definitely recommend this stay for anyone that needs to step away from the daily routine and just relax! Lots of nature and beauty. Absolutely the best stay we had in NZ.

So you want to experience New Zealand? Be sure not to miss this!

We have stayed twice (6 nights in total) on this beautiful farmstay in our 2 month trip to NZ.....and we'll be back for sure. Thanks to the superb, relaxed hospitality of the whole Martin Family, we have enjoyed the outdoor/farm life to the fullest.
We loved every minute of it: the view, the accommodation, the animal life, the bush walks, the dinners (recommended), the 'breakfast for champions' and all the other experiences at the farm. (Meals can be booked as additional)

Our daughter got on really well with lovely Jorja (daughter of the hosts) and it was great to see them have so much fun together.

Want to get away from it all? Stay at this place. You'll probably not want to leave (I know we didn't.....)
Ever stayed at a place where the hosts really go 'above and beyond' to make you feel good? This is such a place: Great.

PS: Be ready to be inspired by this amazing experience.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Twinkingham Cottage (the one with the living) and can very much recommend it.

Just returned from our stay at Nightingale Falls Farmstay. We booked for 2 nights not knowing what to expect and stayed 4 nights. We would probably still be there if there was not a plane to catch.

The location a short drive from Thames is in the hills overlooking Tararu Bay and the Firth of Thames. Both of the cottages available for rent have fabulous views. Both cottages are appointed extremely well and Twickingham Cottage has full cooking facilities as well as a fireplace.

Cottages are quaint, clean and offer comfortable beds and the comforts of home in an exquisite rural setting. Our host family the Martins were warm, generous people anxious to have their guests be as comfortable as possible.Farm tours, swimming in the swimming holes or just sitting on the deck sipping a glass of wine and contemplating the universe,we did it all and loved it.

We would highly recommend this venue to anyone wishing an escape from the ordinary, or maybe just a well needed break from a hectic travel schedule or city life.

Room Tip: If you would like to prepare your own meals you can choose the 2 bedroom Twickingham Cottage with it...
