From the minute I was greeted by the desk staff I knew this was an establishment where customer satisfaction came first. The front desk woman gladly showed me the room and noted that the owner believed in providing free internet service since it has become a necessity like telephone service. Later, when I was doing my laundry, I hung out with the front desk woman and the owner's adult daughter and had a great time discussing potential shopping spots, places to visit, etc. Their warmness went beyond the usual polite customer service that most businesses offer. These women really enjoyed what they did for a living. They even booked my next night's stay in Wellington for me.
Like Minnie33 reported in her write-up, the Aotea Motor Lodge was luxurious inside. The more we looked around the more surprised we were about the amenities offered for a reasonable price. Since the facility was super clean we even filmed the toilet flushing for our friends back in the Northern Hemisphere (to prove it flushes the reverse). This place was an unexpected gem which had the friendliest staff we encountered during our six week travels to NZ and AU.

In January we went for a road trip, not planning on booking in advance and just turning up at places picked randomly out of the aa book. We were tossing up between 2 different hotels so turned up at Aotea Motor Lodge and asked to see a room. The second we saw the bath we both knew we had to stay! The room would have been enough on it's own, nice clean, modern looking and obviously fairly newly built. However, the double spa bath was the nicest we had seen - it was wide enough for 2 people to lay next to each other in it. My only complaint with it (and not really a big complaint either!) was that if you were on the wall side of the bath it was a bit of a stretch to get to your glass of bubbles!

The bed was huge and really comfortable, the location was really great - several supermarkets within about 2mins walk! Really good for the aforementioned bottle of bubbles!

Another huge plus that you don't often see in NZ Motels was free broadband in room. Made searching for a place for dinner that night really easy :o)

If we are ever in Wanganui I will definately be back.

My Husband , Our 8 Year Old Son and I stayed at the Aotea Motorlodge for 4 nights while my husband worked in Wanganui.

Our Unit was really modern, we had a HUGE spa bath inside the main room and we could watch TV while in the Spa bath . The beds were nice and high and soft and they had duvets instead of blankets on the bed which was really nice, as most Motels/Hotels have blankets. They also had soft plush throws on the foot of the beds as well. Our Unit had a nice kitchen which had a Granite bench top, and the bathroom basin had a granite top as well . The TV was a wide screen and the arm chairs were made of leather. The shower was modern , and the Bath towels which we were provided with were plentiful and were big spa towels instead of the normal sized bath towels. The Bathroom items we were provided with were shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, shoe polish, soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste and a sewing kit. Our Unit also had 2 Bath robes as well for Guests to use.

Our Unit was clean, but the only thing I have to complain about which is not the cleaners fault, as it would be really hard to keep clean, is the floors. They had what looked like Modern resin black tiles on the floors which had lots of "ridges" in them, well they seemed to catch the dirt etc as we would walk with the bathmat to the shower from the spa bath and the bath mat was covered in "black" from the floor. The black floor in the shower even though cleaned daily had white cleaning product stuck to the floor inside the "ridges" . I know its not the cleaners fault, as they did clean daily, but what a bad choice in 'tiles" to choose for keeping clean.

The people who owned the Motor Lodge were LOVELY , they really were! They were really down to earth and nice people, who were caring and the lady who owned the motor lodge had a real soft spot for our son ! She also told us what a lovely boy he was too which is the best compliment ever ! They were just really lovely people and I am not just saying that because of the compliment about our Son ! They were just such genuine lovely people and towards the end they told us we were like family ! .

The Motor Lodge has a laundry and the washing machine to use was free, and the drier cost $3.00 . I thought it was nice that it was free as not many places have no charge, and because it was a new and Modern Motel, well the washing machines were new as well. I do think the Motor Lodge could do with a Clothesline though as not all things can be dried in the drier.

They had the internet connection of Broadband which was free to use which is really good .

They had plenty of parking, the rooms were very soundproof.

The Motor Lodge is in a good place as its next to a Subway, its about about 100 metres at the most from Mc Donalds and Burger King and its over the road from a nice Restaurant at The Kingsgate which has Chargeback to the Motel . The Motor Lodge is also next to a Supermarket and over the road from another Supermarket. It is also situated within walking distance into the CBD as well, but in saying that I think it would be a bit too far to walk with an under 5 year old into the CBD. Our 8 Year old son was fine walking there and back though.

It was a nice Modern Motor Lodge with very friendly staff, and Great Owners.

If you want to stay somewhere which is modern and clean with sound proof rooms and friendly owners/staff then this is the place to stay ! I recommend it!

2 Tips : Take DVDs for your Children to watch as they have a DVD player in the room but they don`t have a Sky (Cable) childrens programme channel .

We also took our Sons Scooter as they have a fantastic big smooth concreted area for parking which was ideal for our Son to Scooter on, especially during the day when most people were not at the Motor Lodge.
