Thank you Mike and Karen for a very comfortable stay. As on previous visits, we were travelling with two other couples and found your accommodation perfect for socializing in the shared lounge, enormous well equipped kitchen, and relaxing on the sunny deck area. We will definitely return - as we have in the past - Can't beat this lovely home away from home, while visiting Whangarei!! PS: Also love your taste in furniture and decor, including many historic photos and antique items..

Room Tip: All rooms have spotless en-suite facilities.

My wife and I have stayed at several B&Bs, with Pilgrim Planet being most memorable. Michael & Karen were wonderfully welcoming hosts. Their B&B was purpose built by them; the layout is thoughtful - a large family home with both privacy and public spaces, all the rooms have on-suites. Of particular interest is the recycled Kauri and other native timbers which Michael had salvaged and used for desks, tables, window and door surrounds and other trims. There are very many old photographs, paintings and needlework for decoration and interest. There is a very large library of old NZ histories, novels and picture books. It was a delight to stay, we could not recommend it more highly!

Room Tip: Despite being on a major road, traffic noise was not that notable, due the masonry construction and...

We stayed at Pilgrim Planet for for just the one night during our travels. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It is very comfortable, spacious, and immaculately presented. I found the hosts, Michael and Karen, both to be very friendly and considerate people with a great sense of humor. Michael has a great knowledge of local history and attractions. I would definitely stay here again and can wholeheartedly recommend a relaxing stay at Pilgrim Planet.

Room Tip: There is nothing more tranquil in the morning than waking up to bird song in Room 4.

We have stayed at Pilgrim Planet regularly over the past three years - most recently last week. The rooms are modern and well equipped. We like the combination of the privacy of our own room and bathroom, combined with the opportunity to socialise with other guests in the spacious common areas (kitchen, lounge areas and courtyard). We've has some great evenings sharing wine and food with other travellers, and with Mike and Karen. Equally, if you just want to hang out in your own room, then you don't get hassled by others.
The whole place is always spotlessly clean, and it's a good location - walking distance to town, cafes etc. It's also very good value, compared to what else is on offer in Whangarei.
We think of it as our home away from home when we go to Whangarei.

Room Tip: Room 4 is good in summer - right next door to the secluded courtyard. For winter, Room 1 has a bit...

My wife and I stayed over one night .
Pilgrim Planet is a lovely place - the place was recently built and everything felt new. The room we stayed in was comfortable with an LCD TV on the wall. A column heater was provided and this did a good job of heating the room up - the windows were double glazed and kept the heat in quite nicely. A common lounge and kitchen (help yourself breakfast included) was just a few meters away from us on the same level.
Our host were friendly and helpful and suggested a few places to go eat etc...
Pilgrim Planet is close to the city center - essentially walking distance from most of the main dining areas of town.
Pilgrim Planet is not however Gay friendly. The host are clearly very religious people.
This isn't clearly indicated from the get go I believe. There is a vague reference on their website at the time of this posting...

Room Tip: Road facing rooms have the view... back room are quieter...

I booked this accommodation on-line and upon arrival - as my travel companion & partner Jane tried to check us in (whilst I was on business call) we where informed we could not stay there because we could not share a King sized bed. First of all Jane was told that there had been a mistake and they had no rooms left, and then that they only had a room with two single beds....and then heck, it was actually inconvienent for us to lodge there at all, and just to go somewhere else.
I was informed a week prior to my work seninnar in Whangarei that the township was very booked up due to a big International Hockey tournament being hosted in the city that week - so I made sure to book early.
Wow what a mistake, as these hospo people are totally out of touch with the real world and we felt totally discriminated against and that we should just slink off into the guterings & side streets to seek somewhere - more suitable for our situation.
We where totally discriminated against and totally humiliated by this experience, in all my 45 years on this Planet - excuss the pun, I have never been so shocked and amazed.
This is a wonderful advert for Northland tourism and New Zealand in general, I would Never recommend anyone book this accommodation - because there is a chance on arrival your booking will be cancelled and you will be turned back out onto the street from where you came, totally inconvenienced and humiliated.
Avoid at all costs!!

Room was large with good facilities. we had the front room and the traffic was a little loud, but the double glazing helped and we slept just fine. The shared kitchen was lovely, with the 'retro' stove having everyone envious that they did not have it at home. We enjoyed the later part of our evening talking to some other guests from Canada in the shared lounge area. It adds so much to your travel experience to talk to others and swap stories, locations, tips etc. Great stay.

Room Tip: The room at the front is large, but if traffic noise bothers you, ask for a room further back.
