“Glamping plus amazing workout!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2014

Luxury (Well almost) accommodation, gourmet food, gracious hostess, 11 girls (well - women!).
Day one - 6 hours of hard out hiking... up Bream head, then down (very good for thigh shaping)... swim in the crystal clear waters of Ocean Beach - yes in Mid May - then back to our gourmet supper along spectacular beach and gorgeous pasture. Bath in the outdoor tub (with Epsom Salts provided by our hostess). Short walk into native bush to listen for Morepork and Kiwi - beautiful moonlit night. Plenty of wine and into comfy bed. yawn.
Day two - only time for 3 hours today - round Mount Aubrey then a quick hike up Mount Manaia (lots of steps - excellent for more thigh and glute shaping). Picked up by our hostess and back for delicious cold lunch and sadly back to reality.
Fantastic weekend with all the home comforts and as much of a workout as you like!
Highly recommend this for anyone who likes a comfy bed, great food and of course.... tramping!!

“Spectacular two-day hike - hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 May 2014 via mobile

Four friends were looking for a good, moderate two-day walk. We had planned to go to the Pinnacles but the hut was full so we found Peach Cove hut on the doc site and thought it looked good. We started at the Smugglers Cove end, and had a very pleasant start. Despite a very heavy shower we took Te Whara track (you have to keep an eye out for the start). It was a more challenging climb than we'd expected but the views at the top more than compensated. We went down to Peach Cove hut for the night - lovely but compact, with kiwi and morepork audible but not visible. Day 2 was spectacular - a little easier (although still pretty hard work with a pack). Weather and panoramic views were amazing. Finished off with a paddle on Ocean Beach. A well kept secret. Highly recommended.

“Beautiful hike: a Mountainn and a beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2014 via mobile

We walked the loop from the southwestern parking area to the old WWll gun emplacement, across a couple of ridges and then into Smuggler's Cove beach and on to the same parking area. It took about 3 hours at a leisurely pace with time for a swim in Smugglers Cove beach, which the trail cuts through. The current was quite strong the day we were there, so we weren't comfortable doing more than getting wet, so no actual swimming. The views are fantastic, and you walk above another cove/beach that isn't accessible. Only saw one other person.
The only drawback was the herd of cattle partway up that left a lot not to be desired on the path, so be sure to wear shoes or boots that can be cleaned rather than sandals. Also, don't wear red, as it seemed to provoke the bull of the herd-or perhaps it could have been us yelling at him. Despite that bit of negativity, it was a fantastic hike.

“One of our best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2014

We had a wonderful time. We couldnt have wished for better. Great lodge with everything we needed. It has been well thought out and is most comfortable. Claire is a great host and went the extra mile to look after us. The six of us have walked as a group together for 18 years and this was up there with the best. We enjoyed the walks and Claire spoilt us by dropping us off at various points and picking us up. We would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

“One of the Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2014

This is a real hidden gem! The entire experience rates as one of the best catered walks I have done in NZ. The accommodation is top notch, Claire has thought of everything that would be needed after a long days walk; comfortable beds, plenty of showers and hot water AND fantastic food! The variety on this walk also makes it memorable, beautiful beaches, coastal bush and amazing views. Hearing Kiwi in the back yard at night is a real thrill. The second day is a bit of a challenge but is worth every step! Claire is a great host and it seemed nothing was too much trouble for her, it was clear she enjoyed having us on the walk and our dress-up antics in the evenings! Highly recommend this walk.
