“Run down”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2013 via mobile

This place hasn't been touched in a very long time. Rooms are dated, well the whole hotel is. So confusing getting around the hotel too. Staff aren't friendly at all. They look depressed in their job. Location is ok, across the road from the waterfront and a short drive to town. Nice to have a in door pool but its nothing special. Needs some money spent asap!

We booked an early saver for $188 the worst budget room I have ever seen, block walls no sound proofing by the children running up corridor and crying next door. We didn't even put our bags down!. They advertise Award winning restaurant DO NOT GO THERE, we unfortunately had the worst dinner with an hour & half wait! 6 diners in total. Breakfast was just as bad if not worse, told what your allowed and what your not! Even had to ask for toast and waitress didn't no if there was any toast. Luke warm teapot, canned foods - the prices are ridiculously expensive. Sent therm a 2 page letter informing them that they need to get their staff some hospitality training asap. And to take a good look at the poor standard of food - you would have got better 20 years ago!

Stayed one night. Friends joined us for breakfast. Dining room was more or less empty, we waited nearly an hour for cooked breakfasts. Sorry, no hash browns, no tomatoes. Then had the cheek to charge full price. Will never go back there

Stayed in a Studio Room for $169 for a sleepless night listening to the neighbouring unit's heat pump kick in and out every ten minutes competing with the bathroom fan which could not be switched off. The walls were not thick enough and although the unit was clean and tidy it was tired and lacked a sink to wash dishes which were also absent. There was no microwave and the kettle had to be filled from the bathroom. Reception apologised when I complained but there was no offer of compensation. Disappointed...

Had a quick overnight stay here, which was really good. Had a huge room with queen and 2 singles which was a good size for us and 2 teenagers. Service was good and would definitely come back here again.

I decided to stay at the Kingsgate Hotel the night before a Business Meeting. Overall I would give this Hotel an Average Rating. Reception staff friendly and helpful at Check-in and Check-out. The room I stayed in was quite small but was very clean and has Air-Conditioning and SKY TV. Great for an overnight stay. I dined at the Restaurant on the night of my stay and found the food and service to be very average. I tried a couple of times to engage in conversation with the waiter and waitress but they didn't seem that interested in a friendly conversation.I would be happy to stay here again if I'm in the area for Business purposes as I found the rates for the accommodation good value and the hotel is in a great location near the city center. Overall this is a great hotel if travelling on business but I wouldn't stay here on a personal holiday or trip away.

Have stayed in this hotel many times over the last three years and nothing indicates that it will get better. The rooms are tidy, clean and basic, which is good if you are staying one or two nights. There is an indoor pool and a basic gym. Not much of a view to speak of. The decor is out dated and smells musty. The restaurant is large and well appointed but the meals are not special, not much of a selection and over priced. Depending on the staff on at the time depends on the level of service. Check your bill closely when checking out. Extras were added on. Not a good look. The best part of my stay is the central location. Easy to find, close to the town basin and on the road to the airport. Watch out coming out of the exit. You need to time it right to get into the flow of the traffic.

Room Tip: Choose rooms away from the main road and on the ground floor. No lifts if you have a lot of luggage.
