This is a panoramic view of the city. Really amazing. There are steps for the walker to climb to the very top which I feel has spoilt the 'natural' ruggedness. No more climbing over tree roots and through muddle streams.. Shame... I feel climbing steps is harder on the legs but it is certainly well worth the effort.

It is well worth the effort to climb the track to the lookout for the magnificent view of Whangarei Harbour.

Such a great walk and awesome workout to get to the top and see those spectacular views. The steps are so safe and well made now. Highly recommend for most ages. Take a drink and snack with you for at the top and enjoy a coffee or ice ream from cafe nearby when you get down... Or a beverage at the legendary Parua Bay Tavern.

The stairs make it pretty hard work (have to admit to stopping for a breather a few times on the way up) but the track is well maintained. Well worth the effort to get up there for the views - photo's just don't seem to do it justice. Definitely allow time to spend a while at the top (personally I don't see the attraction in walking up just to turn straight around and walk back down!) and then off to the Parua Bay Tavern for a well earned pint!

I certainly wouldn't be wanting to make young children walk the track, but hey, they are probably a lot fitter than I am! It took us as a group of three smokers an hour to get up to the lookout - not sure how long on the way back, was too pleased to be walking downhill to look at my watch but would guess about 30-40 minutes.

This climb is quite hard up a well formed track with many steps. It is well formed and maintained. The views at the top are of the best i have seen in my travels around the world. The coastline stretches out before you and the clear blue sea is spectacular. The New Zealand native bush itself is well worth the walk even without the view. Combine this with a swim at Ocean beach a short 15 minute drive and you have the perfect day.
