Ruakaka beach, lovely beach with Waves that amaze you. On the coast following the incredible crystal clear waters of Marsden Point. I am very fond of this beach as for Whanagarei being my childhood memories. The sand here is particularly pure also, unique location to be.

White sand gently sloping long ocean beach with a surf club, campground and shop nearby. Seems to have plenty of shellfish judging by the little mounds in the sand. Certainly lots of ringed Venus and other shells on the beach.

Had an absolute blast with Simon from Ruakaka kayaking on my visit home in March 2014. He brought us out for over 3 hours and it was only meant to be 2.5hours and his knowledge was great had such fun. The trip was fairly relaxed, it wasn't hard core so anyone could do it but if at any stage you wanted to take a break or even swing back earlier it was no problem.
Simon even let us bring the little toddlers out for a paddle once we got back, just for the laugh.
After 10km paddling we were starving so headed to Sea Change Cafe in Ruakaka and had as the kiwi's say 'a mean feed'.
Cannot highly recommend Ruakaka enough, a little slice of heaven.
Oh of course the beach is to die for with scenery of the hen and chicken islands sitting out on the edge of the world...

Ruakaka Beach has always been very popular with families especially campers. The town centre isn't far away giving you access to a range of shops including supermarket. The beach is considered to be very safe. It is a surf beach with surf patrols active during summer. There are other child safe swimming options close by in the estuary. The area like any beach site is best enjoyed in summer.

Spent whole afternoon swimming with my three young sons. Incomparably beautiful, safe, clean and free! We even had the chance to gather some pipis (shellfish). Highly recommended.
