“Perfect Whangrei overnight!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

We stayed at this very comfortable B&B on our first night in New Zealand. Whangarei was the best possible destination after flying into Aukland and picking up our rental vehicle. We wanted an easy, welcoming, "no worries" first night and couldn't have made a better choice. Our private room and bath were very sweet, clean, convenient and comfortable. Tim and Jane have such a lovely garden and home and share it so graciously and non-intrusively. The breakfast was delicious and ample, with yummy leftovers for a later snack. Excellent and accurate advice on local restaurants, hiking trails and camp grounds. Print-out maps were provided before we asked! The neighborhood was convenient, quiet and a joy to walk around in. October was such a perfect time to visit. We can't wait to return!

We arrived at Empty Nest planning to stay for 2 nights and ended up staying for 3-that is how much we enjoyed ourselves and what a good base it is to explore the region including the Bay of Islands.
Tim and Jane were wonderfully caring and thoughtful hosts who really went the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our stay with them. As commented on by earlier reviewers, the continental breakfast is both plentiful, healthy and leaves one very contented when departing for the day's adventure. We also chose to have a dinner at home on one evening(very reasonably priced) that was prepared by Tim and Jane. To be able to sit at the dinner table just like home, share both great conversation and a beautifully prepared meal with genuinely caring and thoughtful hosts, was a wonderful experience. Our bed too was very comfortable and it was a blissful night's sleep in quiet surroundings.
Tim also provided us with excellent local knowledge/advice on our travelling days and even went the extra mile providing us with printed travel directions that he had researched on the home computer when he knew what we had decided to do the next day-how good is that!
Tim and Jane are wonderful hosts and more importantly, genuine and caring folk.

We are very pleased that this lovely couple decided to stay longer and explore more of Northland than was first intended. We enjoyed their company and conversation and are glad to have enabled them to more fully enjoy what is on offer in this unique and beautiful part of the world.
thank you, so much, for your kind review. We hope that you will return one day.

I made a last minute call to the Empty Nest late one night and they were more than happy to have me stay the night. My reception by Tim and Jane was warm and they were extremely friendly and kind, having a pleasant chat before making sure I was comfortable for the night. The accommodations were clean and comfy, and breakfast was much better than any continental breakfast served at a hotel I have been at. Home made muesli, warm croissants, tea, yogurt, juice, and toast were all on the offering. I left the table stuffed, and more than happy. It was a wonderful laid back experience that left me in a great mood as I went on my way. I really recommend that anyone heading to the north make this a overnight stop. Thanks Tim and Jane!

We really enjoyed this intrepid traveller. If one of our daughters had brought this young man home we would of been impressed with their choice! It was a pleasure to make him welcome and comfortable. Sadly our encounter was all too short. Hopefully you'll be back this way sometime and we can carry on our great conversations.

I arrived from the UK two weeks to start a new life for myself and my family and was recommended the empty nest to stay and to settle, I must say Tim and Jane have been the perfect hosts and put many of my concerns to the back of my mind, I will always be grateful for there hospitality and warm friendship they have shown me, the empty is clean and very well maintained and the food cooked was of superb quality, Tim and Jane should be proud of how they help people to adapt in a far away country, thanks guys

It was a pleasure to be able to host you and help you transition to the "Kiwi" way of life. You arrived as a guest and left as a friend. We look forward to meeting the remainder of your family as they arrive in NZ.

We stayed at the Empty Nest Bed and Breakfast on a recent trip to Whangarei. Out hosts were freindly and welcoming. The accomodation was comfortable and the setting quiet and restful.
We loved the delicious homemade breakfast! Also a great recommendation was made for lunch and dinner.
Thank you and we would certainly recommend this B & B

Quality hosts and Quality service. Tim and Jane provided our family with all the special comforts from home and more. They are our first experiences of B&B and we were made very welcome and went beyond meeting our every need. Their excellent spa pool was a great treat for our whole family to unwind and share treasured moments we will hold close to our hearts. Warm comfortable beds with lots of space, plenty parking that is situated close to restaurants and shops.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write a review. Yours was the largest party we have catered for to date. It was lovely to have such a variety of ages from 2 upwards to interact with. It was a privilege get to know you, your family and extended whanau. We look forward to meeting up with you again.
