I chose Flutes from the description and pictures on their website, even though we were only staying one night on our drive north, and it added about another 40 minutes to our drive. It was worth it!!
The location is stunning: in the sunshine, the sea shone and sparkled; the birds sang, the pukeko strutted their stuff, Spike the seagull turned up at breakfast, and we enjoyed the complimetary champagne on the decking, nibbling the biscotti and watching the tide change, and the dusk fall.
And then we could see so many stars, as there is so little light pollution - we could only see lights from two other homes.
The room was large, very cleverly designed to give maximum space and allow the bed to face the sea views.
Kay and Andy shared their obvious enthusiasm for their (relatively) new life in NZ, over breakfast.
They advised us to drive out to Ocean Beach before traveling north and we wished we could have stayed longer as it was so lovely.
