We stayed there for one amazing night. We have checked in at 7pm without booking, the reception was friendly to show us there were some beach view powered sites left, which we could see the sea from our camper van. There was an little path behind the bush to go to the beach by 30 seconds, nice sunset we had on the beach, enjoyed the amazing/ romantic time after a day long driving.

Room Tip: Just ask if they have the bay view site left, or if you stay in cabin, found the easy way to access to the beach

We stayed at the park for only one night on the road south but we thought maybe we would have liked to stay a few days more. The beach in front of the park is just steps away and great for walking, bodysurfing, and sunsets. The kitchen was pretty well equipped. We did a great 45 min walk out to Point Elizabeth. The only downfall was that the manager was hard to find and not happy when we found her, we thought she needed a review of her people skills. We would still go back.

We loved the place which has an old world charm, is well kept and has a friendly staff person who even walked us down to the pub where we wanted to buy a meal. It is old and the facilities are not modern but certainly the nicest welcome and most authentic kiwi experience so far and we only wish I had the time to stay longer.

Room Tip: Bayview sites up the top over the bay

A few years back I happened to pass rapahoe bay holiday park during my travels and I decided to stay a night. Even though the facilities were quite rundown, I found the 'owners' and the view to be lovely. HOWEVER....after waiting years to get back there, I was unfortunate enough to meet the new 'caretaker' (David) who is an absolute disgrace! It really depends on which day of the week, as to whether or not he will allow you access to the park (which is predominantly empty??). When I tried to contact the owners (via email) to let them know what was going on there, guess who I got, but david making more outrageous lies. Please be weary if you choose to go there. The facilities are well below par, and the new caretaker is somewhat of a nut case Im afraid. My advice: stay at either one of the 2 holiday parks at greymouth which have excellent facitlities, on the beach also, and just enjoy rapahoe beach for an hour or so on your way through to somewhere else! Trust me. You will save yourself a lot of aggravation. Happy travels. God bless.

I loved this place. Like a 1960s UK seaside camp, it's actually an old timber one-teacher school cottage. Quirky and cosy, with small gardens and quaint hedges. Park your camper and then revisit your childhood. All the kids and teens joined up, played and hung out together. Facilities are very 1970s youth hostel. If traveling south, and the crowds at Pancake Rocks turned you off, at least pull over and have a wander about - revisit your childhood. Caretaker's little round caravan is a classic. But first, stock up on food supplies at Westport or Greymouth. Obviously, this aint no five-star, but I reckon Rapahoe BMC is blessed. Lots of zen and spirit.
