“Surprisingly Nice Setting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 June 2014

I arrived late at night to town and was fairly hungry. The place looked old and nothing special from outside but was wonderfully bright and spacious inside with a warm gas fire in the dining area. A total contrast - West Coast style! The menu had a good range of meals at fair prices. It's been a while since I saw T-bone steak to order so I jumped at that meal. It was perfectly cooked and I had the vege selection with it. The hotel boasted a wide variety of Monteith's beers and I enjoyed a bottle of the Barrel Aged Porter which was very tasty. It was a quiet night in the restaurant so I got good service from a very nice young waitress.

“Probably the best choice in Greymouth”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 June 2014 via mobile

We were a group of 5 for an informal birthday dinner while visiting Greymouth. On the recommendation of our motel nearby we decided on Buccleughs. The first thing that came to mind was that the menu was what can best be described as sensible. I mean that in the best way. No pretentious stuff but a good range of dishes. While on the west coast we had been hoping for a meal of local crayfish. We were happily surprised when the fish of the day board was changed to crayfish just as we were seated. It was worth it. A man size crayfish tail with mornay sauce, salad, and new potatoes for $35 was a good deal. The only concern was that 3 of the 5 crayfish tails were slightly overcooked for our liking but we enjoyed them anyway and it is a pleasant change to order crayfish and actually have all you can reasonably eat. The aparagus and bacon soup was truly excellent. The desserts also good. Sticky date pudding very good. Raspberry sundae a bit disappinting. The prices were much more appropriate to the meals than we have experienced elsewhere in the area so we can say we felt very satisfied with the meals, both quality and cost. The wine list was also sensible and reasonably priced. Overall our best restaurant experience on the west coast.

“Enjoyable Meal”

The having to book a table is an indication that this is a restaurant well patronised by locals and visitors alike. The service was good, food enjoyable and not expensive. A good experience
