Two of us stayed here and were given a room with our own veranda. A bonus. The room was cool. The communal kitchen was spotless and super clean. The lounge was massive and filled with artefacts from Africa. The entire place was so comfortable that we did not venture out. Shared showers and tolets great (men and woman separate).

Guy on reception was lovely Simon I think. Hostel is full of character with lovely decorations and ornaments from around the world. Now I almost gave it 3/5 purely for the fact that the duvet covers do not get changed after each guest this made me feel very uncomfortable as cleanliness is a huge thing for me. There is a sign on the back of the door asking you to strip your bed except for the duvet cover. I also saw the room next door the next day get made up with new sheets but the same duvet cover as was used for previous guests. It takes two seconds to take off and should be washed after every use. Do you want to pull a duvet over you which a smelly guest has sat on naked for all you know? No thank you! The friendliness on reception and the effort someone has put into decorating this place made me still give it a four.

We stayed only one night at this hostel but if we had the time we would have stayed longer. The staff was really friendly. The kitchen was well equiped and cleaner than at home ;-) The private room was big and beautifully decorated. The bathrooms were also perfect. Do not hesitate book :-)

We booked a private room and were delighted. This hostel is exceptional. Beautifully decorated, lovely staff and the most gorgeous, welcoming, clean kitchen I have ever experienced in any hostel globally. I was ready to move in!! If you're in Greymouth do not hesitate to stay here, highly recommended.

We stayed one night at Global Village and were disappointed with the room. It was cramped, we could hardly put our bags on the floor. The walls were paper thin. Our neighbours were not talking loudly but we could hear every word.
The service is very friendly though and the amenities great. However, if you are looking for a good place to sleep...

Stayed only one night to break up the drive from Nelson to Fox Glacier and even still was one of the best backpackers I've stayed in. Friendly host who gave a range of suggestions to do for one night. Extremely clean kitchen and bathrooms, with plenty of kitchen equipment ( all perfectly matched) and large space to use without doing the backpacker shuffle come dinner time. Range of DVD's that can be watched in a separate room from the lounge so noise isn't a problem. The whole theme of the hostel is influenced by Africa with wood carvings and vibrant painted rooms. Stayed in a four bed room, each had own light and power points, comfy beds with water bottles in the hallway to use. Plenty of safe parking. Definitely would recommend to future travellers.

Room Tip: The host recommended watching the sunset at a nearby location, definitely should do, breath taking v...

the kitchen was one of the best equipped l have seen and very clean toilets and showers fab and very modern basins etc and hairdryer provided free to use..
also on offer was the use of Bikes or kayaks again free of charge.. the people running the place were very friendly and helpful, a must if back in back New Zealand.
