1) their kitchen has everything you need. There might will be fresh eggs and bread int he morning.
2) The couple is in their 40,50s. The lady is very nice and gentle when we met her. The husband was having a bad day, I guess, he did not speak much.
3) They run the hostel like their own house, which is a really nice thing. You feel 'home'... I did.
4) There is a Ausi or Africa theme in their decorations around the house. We bought some too at really good price.
5) not easy to get to if you do not have a car.
6) They have a sauna/swimming pool, but you have to pay to use it for a limited number of hours. We did not use it.

A lovely, relaxing, chilled hostel, with great travelling charm and décor throughout. The kitchen set up was great and everything really accessible. Bedrooms spacious and own light, plug socket and mini shelf per bunk-really nice addition. Even great to have pretty and new looking linen! Thanks-probably my fav hostel in NZ.

Very character and stylish place, very home atmosphere. If you were a hippie in your previous (or the current) life, you will just fall in love with this place! And one of the cleanest kitchens I have seen staying at backpackers around New Zealand :)

We stayed here for one night with our daughter and her boyfriend whilst touring the South Island. We booked double rooms. There is an African theme throughout, which includes the decor, but the hostel has a warm, homely feel. There is a large lounge with wood burning stove, a huge, extremely well- equipped kitchen with separate dining area. The bathrooms and toilets are well-equipped, as are the bedrooms. Every area of the hostel is spotlessly clean. Simon who greeted us at reception on our arrival was very friendly and helpful. The hostel appeared to be run very efficiently and was a calm, relaxed, enjoyable place to stay. I wish we could have stayed longer. Definitely to be recommended.

We originally planned on staying just the 2 nights but this hostel is sooooo homey that we booked an extra 2 nights. My boyfriend and I booked a double room which was spacious and decorated perfectly. The whole hostel has an African theme which is carried throughout. Free kayaks and bikes to use. We paid $5 for the use of the sauna which is a lovely touch to the hostel. The whole place has an upmarket feel for a backpackers. The staff was extremely helpful with local attractions and just nice to chat to. Great little hostel, would have stayed longer had we not had to get to Christchurch. Highly recommend for anyone to stay at.
