We spent 2 nights in one of the cottages in mid Feb and had a wonderful time. The hosts are incredibly friendly and do everything to make you feel at home and at the same time as guests. They even looked after our baby while we played tennis with their son (don't be fooled by the fact he is only 7!) and afterwards shared their dinner with us.
The cottage is spacious, clean and private and there were yummy brownies and beer in the fridge! The breakfast is also pretty substantial and delicious.
In response to the guy who complained that it is not actually in Greymouth - well, it's better this way and it's usually a good idea to check things on the map to make sure the location satisfies your needs. For us it was perfect.

Room Tip: If you want more privacy take the cottage option. The other rooms are in the main house of the hosts...

We stayed at New River Bluegums for just one night in one of the outside cottages, towards the end of our holiday in NZ. The place was fantastic, from the very friendly greeting (with home-made brownies), to farm animals, wonderful unit and excellent breakfast. We would have no hesitation recomending this place to anyone looking for a place to stay near Greymouth.

We spent a night here en route further south and really enjoyed it. It's a peaceful homely environment and Sharon&Michael are very good hosts. You're made to feel one of the family immediately. Our breakfast the next morning was delicious and we had a lovely long chat with Sharon&Michael who were more than happy to provide us with more information about NZ generally and things to do/see in the south island. It was the week before christmas and they even sent us off with a little christmas gift, which was such a lovely touch.

Will happily stay here again when we revisit NZ.

We stayed at New River Bluegums for 2 nights on the 27th & 28th Dec 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the outside cottages, cottage #2.The B&B is full of rustic country charm and Sharon, Michael and Harry are warm and friendly hosts and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The cottages are clean and quiet with kitchen facilities and a private bathroom. We enjoyed exploring the property and Sharon's breakfasts are delicious.Although the property is a few klms out of time it was lovely to stay on a property and take in the scenery on the way to town . Over all we had a lovely stay thanks to our kind hosts.

Room Tip: cottage #2 is the most private

We stayed the night of 11/11/12. We typically haven't stayed in many B&Bs in the past, but we will definitely do more in the future, since it's a great way to mingle with the natives. We were in the outdoor cottage. This was more like being put up in a country estate. It was incredibly quiet and rustic, but with all the modern conveniences. I only wish it wasn't cloudy that night since it would be a fine place for stargazing - no light pollution there. Our travel agent treated Greymouth as a layover spot on our way to Franz Josef. Using hindsight, there's plenty to do there and it would merit spending a couple of nights. Sharon, Michael, and Harry: we wish you only the best and I hope it showed that AM. Sorry about spilling my cereal bowl!

Sharon and Michael were born for hospitality -- they go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The outdoor cottage was very clean and spacious, and you can notice in the details that a lot of thought has gone into the guest accessories and outfitting of the cottages.

On a personal note, I lost my wallet in the Greymouth area and it was only months later that it was found underneath some furniture at New River Bluegums. Sharon went out of her way to email me and then ship it to me in Boston. It's so nice to see that kindness still exists today.

Will surely be back next time in NZ!

We stayed a couple of nights with Sharon and Mike and we had the best stay of our trip.
The place is so clean and warm , the bed was very comfortable, the location is great, out of town but not too far, and the hospitality was unbeatable. Highly recommended. Well done.
