The service here is very good, the food just excellent.
I ate here several days in one week as I just had to come back for that good food.
The seafood chowder I had here was the best I've had in New Zealand.
Breakfast was very tasty and fresh and the coffee just yummy.

Touring New Zealand, we happened upon this restaurant by chance.......so lucky we did, as the service we received was first class. The food was excellent, complimented by the fine wine and if we didn't live on the other side of the world, which sadly we do, it would most definitely be our 'local'.

We have always spoken very highly of Hislops but our last dining experience there was disappointing, the friendly helpful staff rated ten out of ten but the food and the general condition of the cafe let them down.

We booked the day prior for an evening meal, the table reserved for us was so scratched that we thought it had not been cleaned from previous diners. The food was rather odd flavor combinations and just o.k. but what we really noticed was that the meals were quite small and were padded out with lettuce and mussel shells to look substantial. We had three courses. The evening was saved by a delicious citrus bread and butter pudding and the two women who served us who went out of there way to be natural friendly, informative and helpful.
