Lovely hotel with an excellent service and very helpful staff. We got a really nice room with balcony and sea view. A nice old and charming building located on perfect walking distance to the small city centre.
Take the opportunity to walk around the peninsula, it was highly recommended by the staff and we agree. And don't miss the whale safari, it was amazing.

We stayed at this charming hotel on a road trip round the south island. Our room was situated in the courtyard and although compact had everything we could possibly need, in fact the bed was the most comfortable we have ever slept in and everything was absolutely spotless.
The owner Robyn, was simply delightful and nothing was too much trouble.
The original hotel has recently been refurbished to a very high standard and next time we visit we would love to experience a room within the main building and would recommend this to others.
Kaikoura has the quietest, darkest nights with a million shining stars.....it's like stepping back in time, but maintaining the comforts of the modern day! Highly recommended.

My wife and I, like most people visiting a region for the first time, put our faith in the research that we have done and also in the reliance of the accuracy of the information gleaned from websites.
Having said this we have at times been disappointed by what we were confronted with upon our arrival.
However, in this case we were absolutely delighted with what we had chosen.
We had booked a sea view room, with a balcony (the best room in the Hotel) and it was perfect. The room was well appointed and my wife and I both agreed that the, design, decor, layout and fixtures were excellent. The ensuite shower was great.
The hotel is set away from the main town centre which again, suited us as we wanted to get a good nights sleep, which we did.
As the Hotel no longer has a functioning restaurant we had to eat out. Once again, no hassle, as Robyn recommended a local restaurant called the Green Dolphin and made the necessary booking on our behalf.
We woke to a superb day with clear blue sky, no wind and an amazing view of the ocean and of the nearby snow capped mountains. The Hotel location is within a reasonable walk of the town in one direction and also of the Green Dolphin in the other direction. It sits across from the foreshore and has magnificent views.
The fact that we were away from the town centre was no great hassle to us, as we had a hire car (need to be careful of the drink driving thing though). There is convenient off street car parking available accessed from the side street.
All in all had a great one night stay and certainly recommend the room in which we stayed, cannot really comment on the rest of the rooms though, as we did not view them.

Room Tip: We had a first floor sea view room at the front of the hotel, with a balcony, and it was excellent.

This hotel is such a gem! We loved that it was located on the Esplanade, yet away from the noise and hustle of the 'hip' bar area of town (by only a few short blocks). I found this hotel on the internet, and was pleased that the pictures posted totally did justice to the reality. Located in an historic building that had been completely renovated, the effect is absolutely quaint and charming. Robin and Peter, the hosts, were extremely helpful as well as being very friendly. Hubby and I felt we would have liked get to know them each better. When we tried to book at a local restaurant, but had difficulties over the internet, Robin stepped in and called the restaurant direct and arranged a reservation at the exact time we wanted at a table with a perfect view.

We had a room on the courtyard, off the back of the main building, and my only complaint, if any, was that the rooms were quite small. The rooms inside the main hotel itself, have the panoramic view of the Esplanade and the coastline, if you are willing to pay the extra. The courtyard, however, was quite lovely and charming, and once the hedges grow to full height, will be private for guests, as well. It was very chilly the night we stayed, and it would have also been nice to have an outdoor fireplace or fire pit to huddle around with our wine.

Other things we appreciated were the use of common areas, as well as the free WIFI for guests. We were only sorry we couldn't stay longer. Next time...

We stayed at the Kaikoura Boutique Hotel and it was absolutely delightful. A real romantic getaway modern facilities and a warm friendly smile greeted you every morning / day.
I would highly recommend that you stay here as you are only a short distance from the hustle and bustle of the main street. If you really want to treat yourself consider it....

This is a great little hotel where the owners will assist in any way they can. The room sew had overlooking the sea was great if a little small to what we are used to, but this should not detract from a beautiful location. Nearly are two great restaurants , the Pier Hotel and the Green Dolphin both of which are excellent. THe owners advised on walks, restaurants and the best way to make bookings for whale watching which is a must. Overall a nice hotel which we found very relaxing.

The place has a great location across from the water for a good price. They have a lounge facing the water for afternoon relaxation with a good book. Our room offered all you needed for a good night rest and not much more.

The inns location was just in the middle of the main road in town so you could easily walk in to town (15-20min) or head the other way to the wharf and Pier hotel for a dinner.

It does look like Kaikura is a good middle point if you arrive in Picton on the ferry and are heading towards Christchurch. For those times, I think this is would be perfect.
