“Highlight of our Honeymoon to New Zealand”
Reviewed 11 December 2013

This tour was incredible. We traveled to Kaikora for the whales, but loved it for this tour. If you are looking for an authentic, educational, personal Maori experience, this tour is for you. Maurice and his family are incredibly welcoming and so knowledgeable. There are no gimmicks or costumes - just a true experience in the Maori culture both as it is today, and as it once was. It literally brings tears to my eyes when I think how wonderful the tour and Maurice and his family was. It is a very, very special experience that should not be missed.

“Do not miss this tour”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

To get right to the point, out of everything we experienced on a great holiday to Australia and New Zealand, this was the best. My wife felt ill the day of the tour, and couldn't make it. But my son and I went. We drove up from Christchurch and returned the same day just for this tour. it was well worth it. Maurice, his wife and niece made this a day to cherish. It was a small group, just three of us the day of the tour. Maurice met us, and was full of warmth, and made us feel at once welcome. I would say the tour was divided into four parts. First to a sacred location where he taught us the Maori greeting, history of this location, gave us a song which we would sing many times, and gave us Maori names. Then off to another location where we learned how to weave from flax, and were told how this location was preserved so that returning Maori would always have a home to return to. We then went to Maurice's home where we met his wonderful wife, Heather who provided tea and light snacks. The tea made from local plants was just wonderful, wish I could have procured some. Then off for a bushwalk, where Maurice instructed us on traditional uses of the local flora. Again, we sang our song many times. He complimented our singing, which is a true act of kindness as anyone who has heard my "singing" will attest.
His warmth, patience, and eagerness to share his people's stories knows no bounds. He ended presenting us a gift to remember the day by.
As I write this review, I remember something I had forgotten to do. That is purchase a local plant in the "Trees for Travelers" program in Kaikoura. A great program, which had slipped my memory. Will do it as soon as I finish this. A small way to give thanks for a great day, in a great country. Hope to return. Thanks Maurice!

WOW - awesome review and much appreciated by us all. It was a shame Roberta was ill and couldn't make it. We think it means you must return again. Thanks again and take care - Heather, Maurice and Ani.

“Must Do!!”
Reviewed 25 August 2013

This tour was definately one of the highlights of our holiday, and we brought home not only a momento of our tour, but also new knowledge and insights, lovely memories and an urge to learn more. The friendship, hospitality and warmth extended to us by Maurice, Ana and Heather is a credit to them all.

“Beautiful Experience”
Reviewed 22 May 2013

I honestly think that this is an experience everyone who visits should participate in - even New Zealanders who want to feel more intouch with our country's history and culture. Maurice and Heather are beautiful people, and it is an honour that they open their hearts and home to share this with people.

“A TRULY GENUINE NEW ZEALAND EXPERIENCE.”
Reviewed 30 April 2013

Our tour with Maori Tours Kaikoura was one of the most amazing journeys we have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. From the moment we were met, we were made to feel like we were genuinely welcome by Maurice and his family. It was a privilege to be informed about the history, culture and people of this most beautiful country. A truly wonderful experience that we will keep with us forever. A perfect balance of everything anyone could ask for in a tour. Fantastic and memorable.
