An easy activity for people of all ages and ability.....flat coastal area. The seals are easy to see and photograph but best not to get too near!!!

“Seals either side of Kaikoura town.”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

There is a seal colony to the south of Kaikoura which is super and you can get to go along with an organised group to swim near the seals ! I didn't go on it myself but friends did and said it was amazing.
When you travel out of the town north (direction of Picton) on the main highway just 3 kilometres along there is another colony which is set off to the right and don't blink or you'll miss it!

The best time is early morning when there are lots of seals and their pups playing around in the rock pools. Well worth getting up for !!!

“Very nice views”
Reviewed 15 June 2014

This is a perfect hald day activity with young kids. Walk 10 min to find the seals - you can get fairly close to them. Continue to walk as long as you want along a majestic ocean

“Sure to seal the deal”
Reviewed 9 June 2014 via mobile

Coming to NZ, you will have tons of opportunities to see seals in the wild very easily. This is one of those places. Follow the seal watching safety guidelines.
