A standout art deco building, friendly staff, great movie and desperately trying to survive in difficult time I expect

This theatre is Awesome! It's an old art Deco Style Theater that brings you back a few years. The Staff are very kind, and it's kept clean. The movies are a bit behind- which is great because I finally got to see Django unchained when nobody else was showing it. The intermission is nice as a smoker with a small bladder.
This is great for a rainy day or a nice night out- after dinner.

The Mayfair is a labour of love for its volunteer workers and the Kaikoura region would be so much the poorer without it, as there is no other theatre or cinema for many miles. It was screening Thurs, Fri & Sat during my recent visit. One film only per night. Luckily it was one this avid moviegoer had not yet managed to see, so I was delighted to be able to go along and see Amour. They still use the old "Admit One" paper tickets torn from a roll. Apparently they usually have a half time intermission, but we (the 30 odd people in attendance) were told that this particular film was a digital copy - so no need to change the reels - so no intermission. One lady promptly popped up and said she'd have to have her intermission ice cream - would they mind waiting while she went and got it? Laughs all round!

Put this on your list of things to do. You need to check out the listings in advance as they do not have regular screenings. This is how the movies used to be, they even have intermisson!! You may not see the latest releases but it is worth seeing something again just to get the experience.
