When we visited in late November there was only one seal playing in the water under the railway bridge and none at the waterfall but it is still a nice walk enhanced by the seal we did see.
Lots of seals on the seashore.

The walk is not wheelchair accessible but my wife decided to try it using her crutches and did manage the full distance/

We visited at the wrong time for the pups but the waterfall is worth the short walk.A short drive back towards Kaikora is a viewing place and there are loads of seal pups to see.

Although there were no seal pups at this time of year, the walk was nice and short and lead to the base of a pretty waterfall, I can imagine it would be incredible when the pups are up there.

This short hike is scenic for the scenery and ends at a tranquil waterfall, but as of mid-Feb there are no seals or seal pups. However, directly across the street from where you park to start the hike, there is a seal colony where TONS of seals (and seal pups) just lounge on the rocks. I didn't see anything marking it, and if it weren't for another passing traveler that gave us the tip, we would have missed it all together. If you are adventurous enough to climb across the rocks, you can get quite close to the seals and they don't seem to scare or be bothered at all by pictures. They were absolutely everywhere, and you must go see them.

yes there are no seals in the waterfall. But it is a really beautiful waterfall, and a must see.
As all the other travels said, just go down from the carpark, cross over the little stream and there is the entire colony on the rocks.
Be careful when the seals are on land they can feel threatened if you are too close. In the water they interact with you up to a few feet away, but on land they are more vulnerable. You will not be disappointed with the great seal viewing.
One tip is that it is about a 1/2 km from the viewing platform if you are coming north, and you can tell you are there going south when you see cars on both sides of the road.
