“A grand place in Kaikoura”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 February 2012

This place lives up to its name. The view from the units is grand: at all times of the day, but especially in the evening. Having been here twice before (and stayed at two other locations in the town also) coming back was the natural and obvious action. And we were rewarded, it was a grand three night stay.
We were located in one of the upstairs studio units, with the car parked immediately behind. The unit was wood paneled throughout. The bed and settee were comfortable. Table and chairs were provided. The kitchenette was fully stocked and well laid out. The bathroom and separate toilet were a little old-fashioned, but everything worked well. A balcony, overlooking the grand bay, with two chairs was the icing on the cake.
Wifi was available with a strong signal and adequate speed for email activity: provided at a reasonable charge.
This year we did not come here for the whale, or dolphin, watching (which are both spectacular) but to enjoy the superb peninsula scenery and walks. Buying the DOC leaflet on local walks at the iSite provided full information on a 3 hour circular walk that is well worth doing if the time is available. Walks around the peninsula headland can only be undertaken around low tide: but the birdlife, and NZ fur seals, are wonderful to watch (but don't get too close). Try the Green Dolphin for an evening meal, it was good.

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms provide the best views: although all rooms face in the same direction and have a...

We stayed here a couple of years ago and liked it so much that we came back. Rooms are comfortable and pretty--panelled with wood, kitchen is fully furnished and the views are fabulous. Nice and quiet. Nothing like watching the sun go down over the ocean at sunset! And all of he local birds seemed to hang out on the shore and rocks right below our window. Management was very helpful, took care of all of our needs and even provided free wifi.

Room Tip: I think all of the rooms have the great view, but ask just in case.

The view is the thing here – magnificent, and all that is suggested by the website is delivered. We had the upstairs unit pictured on the website, with the side window as well as the balcony. It was the first night of this stay in NZ, and the outlook from our balcony was spectacular. The kitchen was well equipped, and the balcony a great place to eat instead of dining out. Bed comfortable, sofa and TV fine, but the bathroom was a bit dreary. Woke to the most amazing sunrise, then walked along the waterfront before heading off. Reception slow but helpful on check-in. Excellent value, we would stay here again.

Room Tip: Upstairs in the newer section; we had the one with the side window (204, I think). It was excellent.

arriving in Kaikoura at our pre-booked accommodation, we were greeted by extremely friendly and helpful owners. We were shown to our room and the views just took our breath away! We had a first floor apartment with double aspect views (room 204) and the room had everything we needed and more. This is the only motel in Kaikoura to stay at as all rooms have sea views.
We cannot reccommend it highly enough.

Great thing about this hotel is the veiws. However cabins are very dated and the bathroom wasnt very pleasent with the smell of wee. We found that the management wasnt very helpful just interested in takeing the money ship them in and move tem out attitude.

Room Tip: Dont stay in the bottom rooms try and get on the top as can be very noisy as we found.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 November 2011

My mother, two sisters and I stayed at the Panorama Motel in gorgeous Kaikoura in November 2011. Our Unit consisted of a lounge room with sofa and a double bed, kitchenette with a small table and chairs, bedroom with two single beds, and bathroom. The Unit itself was average, dated, and the bathroom was not very nice. However the views are nothing short of outstanding - snow capped mountains coming right down to the sea. Absolutely stunning views. The price was okay.

The hostess recommended a good nearby restaurant (Green Dolphin - within walking distance) at which we enjoyed a very nice meal.

We requested a late checkout the next morning as we had just arrived from Australia and were very tired, but this was declined by the hostess as she said that she had already given a late checkout to people in the next Unit. However, the people in the next Unit packed up and left at the same time we did, so this seemed to be an excuse.

Would probably stay there again, mainly because of the views. But the Management might like to loosen up a little regarding late checkouts.

We had a two-bedroom unit with wonderful sea views. The rooms were comfortable; the kitchen had microwave and hob but no oven. There was a very limited allowance of free wi-fi.
