“Not to be missed”

This unassuming little pink cottage on road to Seal Colony is run by Volunteers and is crammed with historic, interesting items re whaling & social history. Even an actual Moa egg! Amazing.

“The pink apparition”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

While there is a wealth of history here, we considered the entrance price steep for what it portrayed.

“A sense of history”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Do visit Fyffe House. We had a wonderful introduction from the lady steward before wandering round the rooms. You really get a sense of history from the mementoes left of the man who built the house and the families who lived here. The way in which things are displayed is also very imaginative - like little scraps of information pinned to a shirt hanging behind a door: you have to look carefully to see everything.

“Step back in time”
Reviewed 6 April 2014

The member of staff who gave us a tour was very enthusiastic, and rightly so, it was a step back in time experience. Worth a visit.

“...takes you back to a time long gone”
Reviewed 16 March 2014

Thank goodness New Zealand saw the light and stopped whaling long ago, however it was a vital part of their economy and history; Fyffes House gives you a feel for life as it was. Don't miss the vertebrae house stumps and a whiff of whale blubber.
