We spent 4 nights here in early March 2010 and were delighted. We stayed in Mahoe, which is the smaller of the two cottages. It was cosy rather than spacious, but very nice with exposed wooden beams and comfortable furnishings. The private courtyard, with an outdoor bath, shower, and tables and chairs, was very relaxing. However the real attraction of staying here relates to two factors. Firstly, it was wonderful to be on a lavender farm. The gardens were beautifully maintained, we had lovely views towards the mountains, and our little boy loved the sheep and chickens. Secondly, Jan and Corry are fantastic hosts. They were so welcoming and helped us out whenever they could. There were lavender products in the cottage to use, and each morning they delivered lovely food for breakfast (fresh bread and scones, yoghurt, eggs, etc). The only thing to bear in mind is that the location is about 5km out of town – so you need transport. We looked at a lot of accommodation in the area, both before our holiday and while in Kaikoura, and many of the motels and cottages seemed fairly no-frills. I would be very surprised if there is anywhere better than Dylan's Country Cottages - we would definitely recommend them.
